Re: Looking for Knights Hospitallers

Google, "Hospitallers of Caid."

There are also a few of us that just do it on our own or with a few other guys. Questions welcome via PM if you'd like.

Re: Blackening - To be clear...

Thanks for the feedback!!!

Is there any precedence that cold/chemical blackening products can/do stand up to SCA combat use?

And if so, does anyone have a favorite chem or method?

I'll join in here as well.

Order placed on the 30th, payment already deduced, but no receipt, communication, etc.

Thanks for the replies.

RFH has been unresponsive.
Stonekeep Armory only does in-stock, and doesn't have the quantity and/or item(s) we need.
Currently checking w/ Ironmonger.

WTB Cops, Helm tops, etc

Greetings! After spending the better part of the week lurking around the internet and the Archive, I have come to a sort of impass. Myself and group of others are after some specific armor bits. We either do not possess the ability to make them ourselves, or those of us who do, just do not have the ...

Awesome stuff Ernst, thank you for sharing!! Here is another quesiton. Regarding Hospitallers stationed in places such as Acre, Saref, Tiberias or any of the other crudsader states....what can we find on turbans as head gear? I've found obscure assumptions and references to it, but nothing solid...a...

This is true. I think though, that given our desire to protray said order in as accurate a fashion as we can, as well as just general interest and knowledge, that they would be more than happy to impart any historical information they might have.

Ah...Gotcha, my mis-read.

I'd offer that it would follow the same conventions as the other items...but then i'm only basing that on...well, nothing. :?

I agree Ernst. As I noted in the other thread, a possible explaination would be because it was dictated by the Rule and/or Papal ordinence.

Given that it was a strict monastic/military order, leaving the shield decoration to the whim of the user would seem rather non-comformistic to me. *shrug*

Ernst, This is one of the questions I've speculated as well. I've yet to come up with anything outside of the extant manuscripts that show shields of that time - none of them particular to Hospitallers though. However...I'm assuming that it might come from the Rule ordained by Brother Raymond... "19...

I have this book, as well as the other ones in the Warrior series. I can't atest to the 100% accuracy of the book, but given my study of the Rule of the Hospitaller's, their customes, and other research...this book seems fairly spot on. The illustrations, while modern, are none-the-less very helpful...
