Is this real? where and when?

Is this a real period helm? From when and where... it's either the worst atrocity I've ever seen or teh best thing
ever.... i'm not sure...

Yeah i Bought and built one of Jamies Valsgard 6 kits.. love it, wish it had the breathing hole in the part over the mouth though..
it reflects all your hot exhalation right back into your face... kind harsh in the Texas summer...

Gotta drill some big holes there eventually...

Zweihammer kits

Does anyone have the kits, or the dxl /pdf files for the zweihamer topf helm kit? I'd like to make one out of stainless, I have access to a water jet and would love an excuse to use it... I'm cool with just getting a kit in ss with instructions (since the zwei hammer site seems to be down) If the Zw...

Any vector file you can put in a DXF, you can save as a PDF instead, it's still able to be loaded in vector programs, and anyone can print it even without fancy software.. As to patterns I'd love to see 1. More of everything, with a more current state of the art/ more historical look...(like good ar...

Re: is zweihammer still an option for a DIY helm kit

I made one from Polar Bears version of the kit, turned out great. The main thing I'd change, is Jamies does not have the breathing hole in the "chin plate". so when i wear it it reflect my hot breath right back into my face... kinda sucks. So I'd put some kind of venting in before you dish and assem...

Also, something simple and cheap like this can get the newcomer over the hump of "I can make it" it's not a big step from here technically to a dished and riveted metal basket... As long as you emphasize that it's ugly, and that it ought to be replaced, or covered letting them build a practice suit ...

Re: differences between 7075 and 6061 aluminum for shields?

Also if you're making it yourself, 7075 doesn't really cut on a shear like 6061, it'd just kind of breaks... it's hard to describe but it really just means that the metal from the waste side of the shear looks funny and has little cracks (not the good side, just the waste side) Also, I've been told ...

If you upgrade you cheap flux core mig to gas, be aware that the penetration goes waaay down. I upgraded my HF flex mig, and was very up happy with it, flux wire would put a bead through 1/4" on gas the same welder wouldn't put a bead all they way through 16g mild sheet. the welds looked waaay nicer...

Yeah I was at Alamo a while back and they sold tanks for like $40, but all they had at the time was Acetylene, and I decided that was just a bit to clever for me. I decided to check here to see if for the same sort of money I could get some already done and someone else took the rest to the recycle....

304 ss back slats

I bought some 14g 304ss to use for backslats, they will be about 1.5-2" wide and curved slightly to match the helm, will the 14ghelm hold up or should I run out and get 12? I'm trying to balace weight and toughness, I don't want to build a tank he's a pretty good head dodger.

Thanks,
