I want to cast some Crossguards appropriate for SCA Greatswords from an aluminum alloy with properties close to 6061. Can I just use 6061? Has anyone done this before and had decent results? What alloy did you use and what was your process?
Thanks in advance.

Some are rather large (quisses) others are not (lames and cops)
I have a large pot I use for brewing. What process would you suggest?

Tips for Descaling 410 after heat treating
Ive tried soaking it in vinegar for a couple days and scrubing it, which has removed a lot, but there are really stubborn bits that arent disappearing after scrubbing with steel wool.
The metal is 410 spring stainless.
Thanks.

Re: Hardened and Hardenable Metals Suitable for Making Armou
My experience with 410 so far is positive. Its not worth trying anything with a complex shape though unless you can work it hot or anneal it often though. It just work hardens too fast. Simple curves and rolled edges are easy... dishing a knee cop, even in 18g, requires working hot or annealing. I h...

Who sells the oval pavilions with the spokes (as opposed to the ones with upright poles around the sides)?
My understanding is that the spoked ovals are called King Rene Pavilions.
Thanks, I am having trouble finding them.

A) is legal in most kingdoms. In some, you have to put a tape ricasso that you cannot strike with, but effectively it is the same thing.
B) In some Kingdoms. Not in Atlantia. Do it the same way you would the tip of the sword.

45 inch Darkwood Rapier- 265$ **Update**
I am selling my 45" Darkwood Rapier. It is very lightly used. It has the economy style Pappenheimer hilt on it.
I paid 325 for it, and would like to get 265$ for it. Buyer pays shipping.

I am 6'3". It is an advantage, but means nothing without the skill to back it up (and there is always a bigger dog somewhere). Footwork is going to be your best friend. Never stand still on front of me unless you want me to practice pounding tent stakes into the ground. Always put yourself at angles...

The war points were not fun. The champions battles were awesome, but I lost a lot of respect for the east and mid for making us sit around for an hour while they had court during the scheduled battle time.

Put a layer of canvas on over the BACK of your shield, with parts folded over the front. Then put the cardoor edging on it, then put a layer of canvas over the front of the shield. The layer of fabric over the edge of the shield between the trimlock and the aluminum easily adds 50-100% of the lifeti...

I am a Polypro convert. I hated it at first, but at the suggestion of Brother Amos de Pious, I have cut it to 2-3 inches shorter than the length of my 1.5inch rattan swords, and it feels exactly the same. I use it for practice only.
