I was one of those seeking Viking runed swords... I didn't see any runes on the above sites http://www.armourarchive.org/ubb/frown.gif This is the only blade with runes I've ever seen, & it appears to be Anglo-Saxon. http://www.swordforum.com/museum/eriktracy/photo-17.jpg ------------------ Hrútr b...

Lemme get this straight... you guys are gonna "play medieval" on this hunt? Call me a wuss... I would hunt many things on this earth, but not a boar, especially while my head was in a pretend world. I've known men to keep dozens & dozens of dogs for these hunts. The reason being that so many are wou...

Problem with combat arrows
I recently started making my arrows for the battlefield & have come across a small problem. I test fired the 1st half dozen. When I retrieved them, I noticed almost all of the nocks were shattered. I'm pretty sure that they broke on impact & not on firing. Any clues as to how this happened or how to...

"Helms shall be constructed of steel of no less than 16 gauge, or of equivalent material." I don't think reinforcements would count. The spaces in between are still 18 ga. Don't get me wrong, I didn't post this to slam the guy. In a round about way I'm saying that new people might get the impression that these are for fighting (Oooh! shiny! cheap! and it says "SCA"). We need to let our newer members know that while it may look cool it's not necessarily combat legal. -...

Dangerous armor?
This guy has been selling on ebay for some time now, but I noticed that his helms now have bargrilles. Isn't this stuff too thin for combat? If so, how many people are buying these thinking "it says SCA, so it must be ok"? http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1639078996 -----------...

What's up with Westlig Stjerne?
I ordered a helm from them July of last year (mainly because their website gave a 12-16 week turnaround, but that's not 'set in stone'). There was some mixup around January and I assume I was bumped to the back of the line. I will take the blame there. Finally in June of this year, they tell me my h...

Do SCA axe hafts fall under the same minimum diameter requirements as swords since the axe head instead of the ratan is the part that impacts? ------------------ Hrútr bægifótr The mind must be the harder, the heart the keener, the spirit the greater, as our strength grows less. Summer's comming... what to wear?
My question concerns viking garb. I feel I have a pretty good setup now (for my first year) consisting of linen blend tunics and pants, wool cloak w/clasp, & wool leg wrappings. But it's gonna start getting warm sometime. What do any of you do to look period and survive the summer heat as vikings? M...
