Affixing a helm crest

Greetings! I have been looking thru these pictures in the Goll thesis, ref arm 1471. I'm interested in the bit on the top, which i suspect is a crest holder. https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8635/15681789614_72718d7051_o.jpg https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8562/16118049129_64ef1cd83e_o.jpg It looks lik...

Re: What locking mechanism do you use for SCA visored helmet

I remember the guy from White Mountain Armoury saying he made a visored helm for himself with a grill underneath the visor, so he could lift the visor anytime he wanted to.

Re: What locking mechanism do you use for SCA visored helmet

I tried to hid my visor geekstrap as best I could. Same color leather as the aventail leather, no big dome rivet heads on the visor (sticking out like pimples), and it lays right on top of the vervelles around the helm. Pictured here without the vervelle cord sorry, and also ignore the chinstrap hol...

Kenshin Hanabe: I did a large amount of the raising over the horn of the anvil. I used small offset stake thing to clean up the eyes and mouth. It's a stake just like this one here, from Wade's shop, but small enough to get into the eyes: http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5337/9019969937_a3c76b6c4e_n.jp...

I finished the visor last Friday night so I could display in for A&S yesterday at 12th night here in Northshield. Center hinge visor circa 1400

I had a fun shop day yesterday. I started working on my first visor, and I think it is coming along nicely. It is based on a visor I saw In Dr. Strong's bascinet book preview that he posted, RA IV.6. It still has a ways to go (the nose is still too fat), but I think it is on the right track. http://...

Welded Cone elbows: second try

The other day I spent some shop time tweaking my cone welded elbow pattern. I made them larger and more pointy. After a few more tries, I think I have them where I'm happy with them. The pictures are a bit blurry. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8400/8678916833_6804eebe02_c.jpg group by RevJamesMitDem...

FYI it looks like someone on eBay in India is using armour pictures stolen from the West Coast website.

I believe these arms were on a composite harness... ... Perhaps RevBigEars and I will have to pay a visit to the MIA and inquire with the curator about it. Re: Elbows from a welded cone

Have you thought of using a copper backing for the inside of your welds? Done properly this should take care of most of the lumpiness inside. Yes, actually I was thinking of exactly that, and as it happens Harbor Freight sells a "welding spoon" that might work slick- its already curved too. The roo...

Re: Elbows from a welded cone

Mac, I was very surprised by how fast they went! The funny thing is I started out with the intentions of making a quick set of anachronistic elbows to wear under a bag-sleeve Jupon, and just changed directions into making full arms that I wouldn't be ashamed of if didn't cover them. So the project c...

Re: Elbows from a welded cone

I took a fresh look at these today, and after looking at some pictures of originals (especially the ones of the churburg arm Mac posted, super awesome views!) I've decided these need a little tweak. I'm thinking of cutting them down as pictured. The left side is a conservative cut, and the right goe...

Elbows from a welded cone

These were an experiment from yesterday. Shaping takes about 15min per elbow, maybe less. It takes longer to weld/grind them. All told maybe 45min an elbow. I think I made 5 yesterday; I changed the pattern a little each time. I actually cut the fan off #4 and welded it in 1", and that took about as...

I'd like a quilted coif, I will mention the sale when ordering. I don't know what colors you have in stock, but my color preference is:
First choice: Black
Second choice: Green
Third Choice: Yellow
I will also mention my color preference when I order, which I will do right now.
