So i recently ran into a piece of steel at the scrap yard thats 30"x8"x5/8" which is just about the perfect overall diminsions and thickness of the Pexto stake plate. yeah i have 5 or 6 steel ones but they are between 4 and 8 inches in dia. with various DEEPER depths i what the stump to make a like 12 or 14 inch dia about 3/4 inch deep. This is sort of the size I cant cover with my steel ones.

I recently come across some gum and oak stumps for my anvils but i will have enough left to make me some doming dishes. My question is how do you'll start the process in the stump Drilling? sanding? I know there are many different ways to achieve this tidious task, so my question would be what works best for you. I am sure this subject has been covered before on AA but i am having difficulty finding anything. I am mostly interested in round punches but will take any advice gladly.
