Re: WTB: Boots for SCA heavy Fighting
I've been fighting in a pair of Icefalcon's "Period Boots" for the past three or four months and really enjoy them thus far. A local shoe repair place soled them with 1/8" rubber that he usually uses on formal men's shoes. The soles are very hard, but the only time I've slipped was fighting in dead ...

I would like to see that as well, Patraic. My new Bascinet will only allow for 1/2 of foam and I'm looking for better, of not more historically accurate, options.

Re: Reliable Armouries?
I had an order filled by Mad Matt just back in August. Even with the necessary delay with medical issues i was extremely pleased with the turn around time. I've been meaning to post a proper review for some time now and haven't yet gotten around to it. In the past two years I've had very positive tr...

I just want to give a quick nod to Archibald. The gauntlets were sent out the morning after i sent payment and arrived very shortly thereafter. He took the time to bag them inside of the box as well, which kept them nice and dry in the freak downpour Southern California was having. The condition lis...

Re: How do you prepair bone handles?
Losthelm's method is similar to what I have done in the past, with an additional (likely unnecessary) acetone soak before sealing. These days I go to my local pet store and buy a bleached bone, made from cow femur. For $3.50 I'm willing to skip the bone preparation. The ones I get locally are simila...

Just wanted to add my support here. I had a similar situation. I ordered a bunch of stuff during the weekend sale like the cheap bastard I am. A week after the order goes through i received and email notifying me that some of the items were back ordered and it would take up to a few months until the...

Re: FS Merctailor Gorget, 2 x Spaulders w/ Brass Trim
I bought a pair of spaulders and a pair of espaulders from Al's last thread - the spaulders are the same design as these except with steel trimmings. The quality, communication, and speed of delivery is simply absurd for this price. The little touches, such as hand made buckles and eyelets on all th...

Im really glad to see that you're taking orders again as I've always been a fan of your work. If you're still taking standard shipping orders after the Pennsic season I'll probably put in another order. I promised myself a maximum of one big purchase every six months (and I'm already in your queue f...

Re: Auction: 14 ga mild Coburg Bascinet
I'm interested in the exact measurements, but it is a beautiful helmet to be sure. When you say that it should fit a 23.5" head, is that because your head is slightly larger? If so, how large are your personal measurements? I also prefer a little more padding than the typical SCA minimum, and at 14g...

Re: Review of Shamrock Armory: Helmet Top
So, pardon the third degree, but is this something Shamrock is doing on a regular basis? Is it mild or stainless? What's the surface like? The RFTH stuff always looks like it would need a good bit of grinding, but this doesn't look bad at all. Do you have any info on the welds? Is it TIG? Is Shamro...

I have heard that Frank's Cane and Rush Supply is supposed to be very reliable. I've never been to the store personally, but have heard good things from others locally. they're in Huntington Beach, so i suppose it's roughly equidistant from San Bernardino as Hollywood would be.

When annealing 5160 (structurally similar to 52100) I usually throw it into an old toolbox full of vermiculite and sandwich it between two bars of 1018 heated to critical. Drilling through 3/8" has never given me a problem afterwards. If i were using a center blast coal forge i would simply bring th...

Running a Tim Lively style forge (pictured below) with a hairdryer for an air source, i was burning through roughly 2-3 pounds per hour.
