Belt knife w sheath for sale
14th C styled knife/sheath $30 + shipping (should just fit in a small flatrate) I can't remember where I got the knife originally, the sheath is hand made by me, and fits the knife well, retains the knife if held upside down, but draws easily. http://i941.photobucket.com/albums/ad259/chris19delta/67c...

Re: Tom Leoni's Capoferro Translation released
Got it yesterday and flipped through it quickly (due to work haven't had a chance to read it fully), its a quality book as is typical of Tom Leoni and Freelance. Def worth picking up if you have an interest in Italian Rapier.

Re: Rapier Tips question.
In my (limited) experience, the major cause of darkwood tip failure is using the improper size. If they slide easily onto your blade, you're using the wrong size. Using larges I'd destroy a tip a week (fighting 2-4 times a week) after switching to smalls I haven't had to replace a tip.

Re: Gloves for Fencing.
Actually, I myself would prefer a thicker glove for fencing. I have an early hilt, 2 rings, and while I'm learning, I'd like to protect that index finger from snipers. I've had deep bruises from rapier (kinda fun, honestly), but nothin' hurts quite like taking a yard of steel on the nail of your in...

A lot of the flanged maces have poky bits that could cause problems if your not trying to damage people for reals, that's probably what hes talking about.

Re: Late 16th C rapier fighting garb help
I ordered that pattern today, planning on having 2 sets made, a regular doublet from the pattern and having the 2nd made up to look like a cloth jack (3 layers in the torso and 2 layers in the arms so i don't run into blow calling or heat issues) as rapier armor, and wearing it over a shirt thinking...

What do i want out of a tournament? To fight, preferably repeatedly pretty much any format that maximizes this = win. Also space for pickups.

Re: Late 16th C rapier fighting garb help
Are you thinking of Reconstructing History's Elizabethan Common Man pattern? I *think* that has venetians, and the venetians seem to be a little more common for lower-class men than the trunkhose. yea, I think that's the one I was looking at. I've seen the borderer's website and have a copy of Stee...

Re: Late 16th C rapier fighting garb help
The most obvious accessory is the horse. You're basing your aesthetic on stuff you'd be wearing to fight on horseback. Just sayin'. ;) Trunkhose, paned or otherwise, are most appropriate. Roomy breeches often called Venetians are less appropriate, but are also seen. Tall, period-appropriate riding ...

Re: Late 16th C pants help
for fighting garb I'm going for the boarder reaver look, a pseudo jack of plates (with no metal to avoid any issues feeling hits) with the arms designed to look like the jack of plates is worn over a cloth jack or arming coat eventually I'll be getting a perfplate faced morion or burgonet so at some...

Skip over the pluderhose if you want a specific impression. Yea I'm trying to be as specific and accurate as ...

but is it really OK to suck? That's just wrong-thinking I can't understand people who accept mediocrity (or worse). Late 16th C rapier fighting garb help
I'm working on putting together garb/rapier armor for a 16th C middle class lowland scots persona, (like a lords retainer in status) I've figured out what I'm doing for the torso, I'm trying to figure out what would be appropriate legwear. Most of the paintings I've seen are of higher class people, ...

Re: I want to learn more about Polypropylene swords!
This discussion is getting heated for what seems like no reason. Jonothan would like a way to determine on the field what material a weapon is made out of (we can determine rattan with reasonable certainty by visual means). Omarad feels that there is no concise way to determine that with the pletho...

I agree with Johnathan on this, there's too much variability in the physical properties of the material and no way to reasonably differentiate between the different variants of the material to ensure that any particular stick is the correct version of the material.

Since the assumed armor standard includes a maile drape over the face, short of sticking it in someones eye I don't see it working that well.
