Thanks to everyone who responded!

I offered him $200 today and he declined, refusing to take anything more than $1 per pound.

So, for $100 I'm now the new owner of a used anvil! :D

It depends on where he got it. If he's getting rid of junk, you're doing him a favour, shout him lunch and a couple of beers, to say thanks. If he specifically bought it with you in mind, pay him what he paid for it. Buy him something he needs/wants as a gift in return, but don't go overboard. He w...

Help Wanted: Fair Price for Anvil

I recently received an anvil from a friend at work and I want to pay him a fair price. It's a Vulcan #10 (100 pound) in good/very good condition. I know Vulcans are the bottom of the line for "real" anvils, but this one appears to be lightly, if ever, used. I've seen pricing all over the place from ...

You can't even get a Bonnacon passed, even if it's only a cabossed head. SCAtology at its finest. I’ve had great success with linseed oil on my 6 foot and 7.5 foot polearms. Typically 4 to 5 light coats will give you a nice look. I’ve never seen the need to seal it and I only touch it up as needed, usually when I’m re-taping and reapplying Plasti-dip. Linseed oil doesn’t affect weapon flexibilit...

Many years ago I took a two handed sword to the back of my head, while on my knees engaged with someone else. It didn’t hurt at the time as I didn’t see it coming and was knocked unconscious. I’ve used both the gunmetal spray and doctored black brush on. The gunmetal spray was much faster and looked OK. The black brush on with metallic paint added was a little more labor intensive, but I liked the final color better. Both seemed to hold up to beatings in a similar fashion and only really...

Could some of these bascinets be original with the owner later adding face protection to match what all the cool kids were wearing? If so, how does one successfully date such a piece and separate it from the Victorian fakes?
