Re: I WTB a Varangian Guardsman in 1040

How thick is that? I would hate to suggest something to you that will cost you more money, and it turn out to be a mistake. Something to consider is the reason you are making it. If it's for more of the look, then as long as that weight is able to support your plates without being floppy, then go fo...

Re: LARGE Ironbadger seax for sale

Somebody buy this!!!

I have one almost exactly like it and it is awesome! I am so sorely tempted to snatch this up for a closely matched pair or better yet, as gift for my son.

Finances are not the best at the moment or it would already belong to me  .

Good luck with the sale,

Re: Calories burned fighting?

Interesting study. Not as comprehensive as I would have liked...they are just running on a treadmill, but still useful information. Thank you for posting it. I think I am getting better at estimating calories burned by keeping track of just how hard I am working at other tasks, and doing a compare/c...

Re: Calories burned fighting?

A ball park estimate is a good idea. I think practice is like High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) in a lot of ways.

Endomondo has a way to calculate your burn for that if you know approximately how long and how many bouts.

Thanks for all of the replies by the way. :)

Re: Calories burned fighting?

I use my fitness pal too. I put fencing as my activity in endomondo (an app that links your physical activity to my fitness pal) but I don't think it was accurate. American Football might be much closer, but some people wear significantly more/less armor than others. All I can say for sure is I know...

Re: Calories burned fighting?

I know, but the search function for this topic spit this thread out on top...and there weren't any updates from the posters.

I'm trying to lose weight so I can rejoin the military. I've been reading various opinions/theories about calorie intake/burn.

Re: St George - Hradcany Square - Body armour - Update!

I got some scales from The Ring Lord, and I am going to be doing scale half-sleeves and a skirt for my Varangian Klibanion.

I just did a search and this thread popped up.

Did anyone make any progress on their respective projects? Any other insights to offer?

Thanks,

Thank you Bokalo!

I ordered a gorget that I thought I wanted Sunday, and Bokalo quickly assessed my problem of a stout neck and uncomfortable gorget problems. It was amazing! He didn't just let me buy whatever I happened to think I needed. He quickly pointed out that I really wanted his "no-neck" style splinted gorge...

Re: Lamellar and Splints from Pallet Strapping

I played around with some scrap strapping that I found/liberated from a dumpster... As you stated, it has to be preserved, or rust will set in. The stuff I got was easily polished free of corrosion after I cut the plates out. Similar dimension to the one you listed...just a little narrower. I though...

IMHO, and echoing InsaneIrish, don't pull any punches or swing for the fences. Any new fighter should be educated on what to expect from their opponents. Since she really wants to do leather and wield a great weapon, I would STRONGLY suggest at least two splints (hidden or otherwise) on the hardened...
