Re: my client has weird legs
you can see some of the anatomy here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CKJeA6bVxUU&list=PLExHszINjorYXQVP5fb3y5saCw8e9Jzge but I scrapped most of it and just kept the eyes, mouth, and the bottom of the feet in the end haha yes, it is pattern welded armour. Would be a ludicrous amount of work IRL but p...

So my latest client has double jointed legs but I hope I did him justice, what do you guys think? Edit: helmet was really tricky to figure out too. embarassing question I know, since I make 3d armour for a living... but do these pauldron plates have names? I've been calling them pauldron wings this whole time.

good notes, really appreciate the feedback, thanks it's a lot easier to make these adjustments in 3D than in steel, I'll add them as I'm still working on the project.

Galileo, I make models for Bare Mettle Entertainment and Grinding Gear Games. None of my artwork is present yet in GGG's Path of Exile though, as I've just recently started last year.

Re: Even moar 3D armours?
thanks Keegan :D Indianer, the program is called 'Zbrush', sadly it is not free, but the cheapest license I can find it is at novedge for $750 https://novedge.com/products/zbrush-2021 A steal, considering how powerful the software is, and how many 3D programs these days are becoming more subscriptio...

Even moar 3D armours?
I made some more stuff! Still not museum-level replicas, and clearly fantasy armour, but I'm getting there slowly. Normally video game art is under an NDA, but the lead developer has allowed this particular suit to be revealed to the public ahead of time. edit: yes, that would be a world-first histo...

here's that folding lance rest again. I did have a reference after all. Looks like they tied it up with a wire since it lost it's leaf spring. Not sure what that large bolt on the lower right is though...

Re: How's everyone?
here's something that never occured to me to add to my 3d armours, but I've done it a few times now; a removeable plate that attaches to the front half of a spaulder. You don't ever see this sort of stuff in movies or games, a lot of these more advanced mechanisms are very obscure. https://i.imgur.c...

no worries! xD yea this was more of a quick mockup for a general understanding of how the mechanism was put together. It's all about the subtle nuances, and I'll take your advice to heart when I finally put together that workshop I've been meaning to. I'll go back and make those changes though, migh...

Re: How's everyone?
hey Mac! Wow I don't know what a return spring or armscye gusset is, but I did some quick googling and now I'm better informed  I think I understand how the folding lance rest works, and made a model of it. I couldn't find a top image of the lance rest, but I assume the lever pivot has a shank...

Hey! I haven't checked in in awhile. Hope everyone's doing well and staying safe. Personally, I'm working on a lot of cool 3d armours for vidya games, but sadly they're all under NDA, so nothing to show for a few months/years. By the way does anyone have any recommendations for books or references o...

Re: I made a 3d helmet!
@valdred - Yes, it's possible to flatten 3d geometry into 2d via UV unwrapping; but right out of the box I don't think the results would be accurate enough for real-life armoursmithing. There are different types of UV unwrapping, each utilizing their own algorithm for accomplishing the task. Perhaps...

Probably could use a few adjustments so that it would function IRL.

Re: Professional opinion needed on our cuirass
it's pretty simple really; would you rather get smacked in the chest with a spiked warhammer while wearing muscle armour, or a convex breastplate? The spike's going to feel right at home with all the surface detail, and will probably go through padding and wedge itself into your sternum. If the spik...

Re: Professional opinion needed on our cuirass
if it's not for combat, whatever goes I suppose, but boob armour is generally a huge no-no. That's basically putting a concave shape that'll catch everything directly over your heart and lungs. A normal breastplate construction works fine as long as it's measured and fitted for the person wearing it.

Re: shoddy creation of a 3d sallet
Kind of excited about the tutorial I'll be writing. It's going to be a massive project, and I'll need to learn a lot more than I know now, as well as some touch-up research as I've gotten rusty. Quite important, as I don't want to spread misinformation. Here's the table of contents so far, I'll let ...

Re: shoddy creation of a 3d sallet
Heya Mac! Yea I think 3d could be a great tool for armoursmiths. It's possible to UV unwrap 3d armour (turning a 3d object into a 2d map) - this could really help with making patterns, especially if you could scan yourself, or a customer, and using that scan as a reference to sculpt 3d armour over. ...

shoddy creation of a 3d sallet
Hey guys, I'm still doing 3d art full-time, and still saving up to build a proper workshop. I thought there might be some interest in 3d armour creation. It's not historical in the slightest (I wasn't working with any references), and proportions are absolutely the worst. Just something I made when ...

Hey folks, it's been awhile! I made the inner layers; linen, wool, linen, and hand-dyed jute. It has a nice heft, but isn't too heavy, and It's all hand-sewn as usual. The fit is pretty nice, and much better than my first iteration. http://i.imgur.com/6Hh3mFI.jpg http://i.imgur.com/yrC3ycT.jpg http:...
