Re: Who are active armourers in the N. Illinois and S. Wisconsin?
I would be interested in seeing an armorer/armor workshop in the area. I went to Kenwrec's garage when he was in Woodstock (has since relocated to Florida) and I did some BotN prep with a few guys near Springfield... wow 8 years ago now. Anyway, I'm in Chicago again now. I am not an armorer myself, ...

My recommendation, based on your original post and your comments, is to join an organization (or more than one) that lets you explore your interests and provides occasional venues to display your hobby, socialize, and potentially make some money. These groups can be living history, SCA, or various m...

Re: fighting SCA with cervelliere and great helm combo
John Meyer of Cliffside Armoury wears a bascinet under greathelm. Heavy, but it works well. I know he has made similar setups for a few other people. One factor is whether you want your under-helmet to be SCA legal as well as the combo. I am working on a cervelliere that's 16g and doesn't have full ...

There are a ton of depictions of coats of plates from that era. The great majority have a similar slim silhouette.

We cannot see the torso armor from this effigy, just the surcoat. For mid-14th century your best bet is a coat of plates worn over that mail.

When you use a term like that many people will assume "historically accurate" or somewhere close. The problem is that the sport...

That's 200 years of a transitional period in armor. Let me ask some questions: What size armor are you looking for? Rough height and measurements are helpful when looking for new armor. What style are you looking for, if any? You didn't ask for any mail, which is the primary defense for much of the ...
