Re: Fighting in Austin, TX
Hey there everyone! One of my coworkers and I will be in Austin for a few weeks starting on Monday. Are there any Archivers in the area? I'm going to try to make it to as many practices as possible and I look forward to meeting the wonderful populace of Ansteorra. Thanks, Jethro You're looking for ...

I wrote a thing on how I made my splinted legs and arms. I did it out of plastic and had no armoring experience and I have made two pairs now and they worked great. Here is the link: http://www.createforum.com/thegirlsclub/viewtopic.php?t=1218&mforum=thegirlsclub I'll vouch for that approach. Isabe...

I have never seen an example on a bascinet and aventail. Can anybody provide an image? I have always seen them on Great Bascinets. Also, this guy is wearing his aventail and resting his head on a helm that contains a torse as a part of the crest. Link here [ http://effigiesandbrasses.com/1012/1184/...

Hi Helene- I have a really long, really thick neck so basically that is a pretty tall gorget compared to the average. In fact, I bought it second-hand from a buddy because it did not fit him. My helmet extends a bit more that the inch past my jawline that the rules call for, but not much more than ...

Helene, Are those cards heavy cardstock? Where did they come from? Very creative setup. Yup - I had a pack of cardstock bookmarks that they give to kids to decorate. The first is that they are far too ornate for that purpose. They appear to be covered with pearls and gems. They are clearly intended to be seen and admired, and not stuffed into a helm. If the helm were lined, the decoration of the orle would catch on the lining. If it were not lined, the decorati...

I use a barrel coat of plates and it works quite well. I have loaned to women of varying cup sizes with pretty good success. As a Marshal, I couldn't bring myself to authorize a deaf fighter. The ability to respond to the yell of 'Hold' is too integral to safety. Painted cloths are often size based, ie animal glue and water, it is remarkably water resistant (not proof), they can use gum arabic too, but that is not. You can use egg as well, it adds a bit of body. You need to la it on dry-ish, ie not too wet or it will spread, you should be able to brush on s...

I hadn't seen painted-on details like that, but there are certainly a lot of extant embroideries in this style where there's a cartoonish lack of detail on the features that could indicate that the paint had worn away over time. (A lot of the details I'd seen in close-ups showed embroidered-on feat...
