I buy these. Never been unhappy. http://springfieldleather.com/32656/Saddle-Skirting%2CImp%2C%232%2C13-15oz/ EDIT: Zach White leather can suck it. They like to charge people for things that are backordered and not tell you, then argue when you demand a refund and cancellation. Never doing business w...

Re: Mac's new chest. More than meets the eye.
It's amusing to see how many friends link this back to me from other sites with "Sean, you have GOT to see this." :) That's happening to me too. I've also answered another couple dozen PMs on Reddit, including one from a guy calling himself Dillon Ryan who says he works for http://www.finewoodworki...

Re: Mac's new chest. More than meets the eye.
Mac, this is my fault. Tuesday morning someone from the local Barony posted this thread to the Baronial Facebook group, reminding me how awesome it was, so I re-hosted all your pics on to Imgur and posted them on Reddit at /r/pics here: http://www.reddit.com/r/pics/comments/1rhujy/whats_in_the_box/ ...

Re: I wanna be a VIKING
The wife is sniffing around at getting me some sort of improved aventail for my helmet for Xmas. Right now I'm using the "Oh shit I need an aventail right now" $35 butted galvanized model from Therion Arms, and it's falling apart (as expected). What do I tell her to get me? Round rings or flat is th...

Re: Viking Shield Construction Question
I'm going to be the guy who dissents from the majority here. Historical Viking shields were around 36" in diameter, and tapered down towards the edges to save weight. This is a HUGE shield, and if you're making it the historical size, you can't make it from historical materials unless the fighter ha...

Re: Best way to buy zoombang?
OK...some of the best detail I have read on the zoombang stuff. Now here's my question...I am thinking the loose fit. I plan to wear this under a mail hauberk. I live and die by my sword and shield. RARELY ever fight any other style. I'd like recommendations on "how" to wear it...and here are the 2...

You mean except for the turnshoes that Viking Leathercrafts sells, right? http://www.vikingleathercrafts.com/norse-2-toggle-boots-in-turn-shoe.html Neat. I haven't looked at his site in a while for shoes, those must be a newer offering. However, they still look like they're made by Westland Crafts ...

Re: Advice on Viking Footwear
Viking Leathercrafts is selling Westland Crafts shoes from Pakistan. This isn't, in itself, bad, but if you're looking for an actual turnshoe, those aren't them. They are turnshoe-looking shoes made on a modern last with a nailed sole. I'm not bashing them, or Frank; I wear a pair myself with Vibram...

I have a buddy getting into SCA, he wants to do an early-period Crusader kit. Re: SCA Sword Scabbard-How to?
One thing I've learned from Vitus, when you make a scabbard for rattan, you want to make the throat slightly larger in diameter than the chape. This way, it holds your sword in firmly when sheathed, but it comes out easily and quickly with a yank. Basically, if you need a 6" wide piece of leather fo...

The plackart of my leather cuirass is made from a 3/8" thick sole bend. It's essentially bombproof against any kind of blunt force trauma.

Saw it on Reddit this morning, reposted to my FB wall. That's a nice tent, that sucks.
I'd guess they stole it for the trailer, the other stuff is just collateral damage.

Vinegaroon isn't a dye; rather the chemicals cause a chemical change in the leather to produce the black. It will last forever.

I'm not picky about anything, just running out of wooden stakes and need to replace them. L top, loop top, whatever. 3/8", 1/2", round, square, whatever. Tentsmith's stakes are too expensive. I've been able to find them online for $2 each. If $2 each is what I gotta pay, then I'd rather pay an Archi...

Re: Need help with Larp armor (yes I know, boo! boo! hiss! h
I would start by reading up the rules for that paticular larp. Sometimes they have regs and rules that restrict or encourage steel and leather. This, man. Many games prohibit plastic armor, even aluminum. The reasoning is that if you're going to get the in-game rules advantage from armor, you need ...
