Re: SCA finger gauntlet construction?

I really like those aerostitch gloves, they look great - $50 for a pair of gloves is ugly, but not that bad if they last. I usually use these inside a demi and was considering using them as a foundation for finger gauntlets because of the integrate padding. It seems to me that my biggest problem is ...

Re: SCA finger gauntlet construction?

I'm a Martial-at-Large and have read/understand the rules, it's the construction that I'm not really getting my head around. There are only two locals that use finger gauntlets and I am totally confident that what they are using is safe given that they use them regularly and have never even said "ou...

SCA finger gauntlet construction?

I've been seeing finger gauntlets a bit more often lately and I am wondering a few things... - Are they "safe"? - Are they as protective? - Is it better to bottom out the plates on the rattan? - What is the basic strata of construction? (leather, foam, leather, plates?) I've got a decent set of know...

The Al never went liquid on me, but it sure was easy to move after the heat.

I did more dishing and then planishing, are the chances good that I re-work hardened it?

Re: propane forge or OA torch hot work

Good stuff!!!

I'm planning to build a small gas forge in the next year or so and this info will be very useful!!!

Right now I'm mostly dealing with aluminum shield scraps from T-6061 sheet and street signs. How bad is it to dish, heat to orange hot, dish a little deeper and then cold planish?

Re: propane forge or OA torch hot work

I've only just started tinkering with armoring, so I'm no where near as knowledgeable as I'd like to be... I've done a little cold dishing with a smidge of assistance from a plumbers torch... If I do a piece in a similar fashion as the Met video (hot worked elbow cop), do I need to go back and rehea...

Re: Laminated canvas for hidden/covered armor experiment

I think the "cheese cloth like" fabric you guys are thinking of is called "gauze". It's a very loose weave and in my opinion would be a waste of effort. The idea of starting with just 2 layers (of canvas or cotton duck) and letting them dry, then adding more is a really sound concept. You might also...

I just found him on Facebook before checking in here and sent him a message there. seeking advice for SCA heavy pavise

I'm kicking around the idea of making a pavise for SCA heavy combat. Some things I am curious/concerned about are: - I'm used to a standard heater, but I've used a kite in the past... The pavise seems to be some where in the middle of a lot of protection with a lot of blind spot... - I'm used to a s...

Do you have a bevor to go with this helm?

My head is 25" circumfrence, would this helm be stupid big on me? Or would the difference safely covber side-to-side and front-to-back differences?

How dumb is this idea?

I'm working on a crazy tight budget, so I am doing most of my armour with pickle barrel plastic... I bought elbow and knee cops and spaulders from Windrose and plan to do landsknecht garb with the rest of the armour hidden inside. My probably not so brilliant idea is to sew SCA minimum plates in pla...

Landsknecht and the waffenroc have crossed my mind... I'm a little intimidated by the volume of sewing that would include, but not completely scared away. I'm thinking of doing a coffin lid shield for my Lady, as a joke (mostly).

Can anyone give me any ideas of the proportions and construction ideas (I don't think it should be completly flat or the standard heather curve)
