Re: Overcoming injuries and healing with regards to plate.
@leonStar I would add one quibble -- I wouldn't go lighter than 12/13 gauge for the body of the helm and 14 for the visor. The only injury that I worry about (in SCA combat) is concussion. Bruises and broken bones will heal but your brain generally will not. And now I feel that I really need to get ...

Not liners, per se, but some folks use anticoncussive padding such as Shock Tek and a period linen liner.

Who is 'Whonew' and does he/she have any other kits? I am looking for a set to buy or make. The only thing I have to offer in trade is a set of small articulated new clam shells that my wife will no longer be needing. What Klaus the Red said. I had a pair of Whonew's hourglass gauntlets and I loved...

The Windrose chin strap works well. It is a single strap but gives a similar affect as a 4-point system. http://www.windrosearmoury.com/zc/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=270 Craig Nadler sells a similar one that is less expensive. https://www.nadlermetalcrafts.com/Leather-Chin-Strap-p1...

Re: Helmet sizing....?
Eric at Ironmonger Armory uses a caliper system. Unfortunately, it may be more prone to user error. At least, I appear to have under measured my head when I bought a munitions bascinet from him a few years ago. My helm (not Matt Helm, as originally posted on my phone LOL) has worked fine as long as ...

On a related matter, I am about to re-pad my bascinet and my son wants to pad his great helm. Re: Concussions and CTE
I have read that strong neck muscles have a protective effect against concussions. Ergo, a heavy helmet may have additional protective value, in addition to affecting the moment of inertia. Perhaps a minimum weight standard for SCA helms? Lee If I was designing a CTE study, I would be interested in ...

Re: How do you like to strap your helmets?
I am mostly happy with my Windrose chin strap. It does am excellent job of keeping my helmet on and my visor away from my face.
My only complaint is that it sometime gets twisted and is a pain to untwist.
In considering making a new one with wide straps because of that.
