Re: Middle eastern straight swords?

I do not do an Arabian persona but I am familiar with it. The biggest question would be, what time period are you looking at? The "Arabian" culture varied wildly from region to region and over the span of 1000 years. Around the first crusade you had a huge abundance of single handed swords, much lik...

Depends on my weapon. My mace, still has the same rattan haft it has had since 2010. It is a bit beat up but otherwise still good. But I don't hit with the haft. And I use it pretty at 1-2 practices a week for 6 years and events. My swords... they go about 1-2 months with regular use at practice and...

Re: I WTB an Ayyubid Arab (12-13C C. Saladdin)

Any good patterns for garb to match this look? Until I get surgery (and recover from it) I can't fight. But I reckon in this heat, I need me some Arab Garb. I happen to do an 11-12th century Andalusian Berber Moor as my persona, and the garb is pretty simple actually. Most of the shirts are simple ...

My faults in fighting are simple.

I have been fighting with a mace and shield so long that my sword technique is junk. I no longer no how to fight at range and lack the confidence to do it. Something I am working on getting over.

What about non-Moorish items from Al-Andalus? Was it all Islamic or were there Christian items too? A question. Short answer, yes. Up until the Almohads the "Moors" were quite tolerant of all religions as long as you paid your taxes. The Almohad rule was a bit more restrictive and became almost opp...

Common misconception that the al-Andulas Moors had a great deal of contact with the Persian Muslims of the middle east. While they did have contact with them, they weren't seeing "eye to eye". The Almohads at that point were very much their own people with very distinct styles. Before I go off on a ...
