Re: searching for a helm

That looks kinda like a zen warrior armory helm. I fought in one for a couple years. Fairly durable, rings like a bell.

Re: WTB: Large Civil War Tent. 12 Ft. Long, 10 Ft. Wide

I bought one of these for gulf wars this year (since blockade runner is about 2.5 hours from where I live), got hit with a relatively gnarly storm the first night with no leaks. I can safely consider this to be one of the very few SCA related purchases I have made that I have absolutely no regrets a...

Re: Paging Viking Leathercrafts

Thanks for the reply Frank, I apologize for bringing this up on the public forums. I had tried using the contact page on your site but never got a reply back. I was worried that my stuff had been shipped to the wrong address as I was in the process of a move and had both my old and new addresses to ...

The communication I have always had with Frank has been top notch. I am just worried that my order might have gotten misplaced. I wonder if maybe he just has a big backlog at the moment.

Barony of the flame is roughly an hour away from your location in Louisville KY. (this is my new group) We hold fighter practice on Tuesdays at 7:30 at an indoor location on the UofL campus. There is also a second fighter practice every other Sunday. at 2:30 in the same location. This Sunday happens...

Re: Show off your 'Soft Kit' 2013!

Awesome kit John!!!! It's my understanding that you are wearing your cloak in the female style though. (IF I'm wrong PLEASE correct me) The female style is pinned in the center and worn over both shoulders as you have it. The male style is pinned at the shoulder of your sword side, leaving your swo...

Re: Trying to figure out which direction to go...

Leave out the holy Land stuff. Why not just have it given to you by an uncle wealthy enough to afford to do so? Giving arms to someone was a recognised way of honouring someone under you while effectively enlisting his loyalty. The family tie would be strengthened by such a gesture, and the gift wo...

Re: Trying to figure out which direction to go...

The proper length tunic can hide the knees. Though at some point I will be making padded braies to point the cops to with hose over them. The tunic can also cover the arms, which I do on occasion. Hose and/or wraps could cover low profile foam under a rigid plate. Really, it depends on how much pro...

Re: Trying to figure out which direction to go...

The person you want to represent may not even have had mail at all. It was pretty expensive stuff. At the moment I am justifying the mail with a story that one of my many uncles was a soldier of fortune and had taken it off a dead Saracen raider during his visit to the holy land. I would have recei...

Re: Trying to figure out which direction to go...

Bari was the last. It fell in 1071. I remember reading that now!! I was just trying to quote from memory and that (obviously) failed me. Not sure what you mean by a Frisian helmet. Did you mean Phrygian, like a smurf hat? If so, that would be fine. I did mean a Phrygian. Duke Ice has it listed as a...

Re: Trying to figure out which direction to go...

I am familiar with that thread. (When I decided to start researching my persona this was one of the first places I went.) I am trying to set myself up as being some form of minor nobility (very minor) leaving out of Normandy in the year 1046(ish) as a foot soldier with Robert D'Hautville. It is said...

Re: Trying to figure out which direction to go...

I do have a pair of re-purposed baseball catchers legs that I wore when I first began fighting a couple years ago. They worked alright but I am thinking that they are not really low-pro enough to work as hidden. The pants I wore over them were essentially wrap pants and I really like the more period...

Re: Trying to figure out which direction to go...

I have found some sources depicting normans in legwraps. The legwraps however are not the worn tightly like the vikings but more loosely (My best guess is that they were more of a fashion thing.)

Any idea on where to get some good low profile plastic armor pieces I can work with?

Trying to figure out which direction to go...

My time period is mid 11th century italo-norman. (Aiming for 1053 fighting against pope Leo IX at the battle of Civitate under Robert Guiscard). The major issue is trying to figure out what to do with arms and legs for my armour kit. I shattered my left leg in the Army a couple years ago and the SCA...
