Re: WTT White Mountain Armory Kettle for Spangen

I'm just looking for trades right now, but I paid around 450 for the hat and 200 for the aventail. It's currently the only helm I have strapped up, and with Pennsic around the corner, I need to make sure I have a working helm, hence the desire to trade.

Re: WTT White Mountain Armory Kettle for Spangen

Oh yeah, important piece of information. My dome is 23.5 - 24 inches, depending on who measures it. The helm could fit someone with a slightly larger head, though not much more...

WTT White Mountain Armory Kettle for Spangen

Greetings armour archivers! I'm looking to trade my White Mountain Armory kettle helm in mild steel for a spangenhelm to wear in the interim of getting my new spangenhelm from Surly Anvil. I am trying to get my 10th century Dane kit in order ASAP, but I don't have the cash flow (or the need) for an ...

Re: Custom Aluminium shields starting at $60

I'm going to try the box with a piece of scrap aluminum I have, then beat on it a little and see how it behaves. USPS says that Parcel Post will be in the $20 range, taking about a week to get there.

Re: Custom Aluminium shields starting at $60

I will try and do a mock-up of a pavise, but no guarantees on such a complex shape, or if the bending required will compromise the structural integrity. It'll be exciting to give it a shot.

Re: 2013 Fighting Resolutions

Thanks to some ducal motivation, I now have a bucket of concrete with a 4x4 post curing in my bathroom (concrete needs ventilation and it's too cold outside).

Resolution #1 nearing completion and we're only 6 days in, heck yes!

My resolutions date back from when I got home from my deployment and essentially not being able to fight or even really do pell-work for an entire year... 1) Build pell in backyard so I don't have to drive to a friends house to train 2) Train on said pell 3) Complete CoP and acquire Wisby "fingermit...

Vilhelm: You damn dirty Swede! :P :D  (Do you have pictures of your kit? I'd love to see what you have for our part of the world.) Considering that a lot of effigies actually displayed items in use approximately 20 years later than when they appeared on armor, and the Johann III von Rappolt...

Looking for evidence of "heraldic plate" on german helms

A friend of mine mentioned something that would be neat to add to my helm as I am doing a German 14th century portrayal (Ok, it's actually scandinavian, but we tended to steal a lot from the german mercenaries that were always up in the area). His suggestion is a "heraldic plate" sewn to the front o...

WTB Bascinet (MS, grill & klappvisor desired)

I am currently finishing up a tour overseas and I am looking to get a bascinet for my return home in October (so there's plenty of time). I've looked at off-the-shelf helms and they've certainly gotten great reviews and I don't have a problem with them, but I'd like to see if there's anything used o...

Re: Finding the right crossguard for early 11th Cent. Danes?

I took a peek at the BMH ones. Not really a fan of the metal tongues coming down the handle...seems like it would be uncomfortable in the hand... also, they all seem very...flat. Right angles and whatnot. I dunno, I'm being extra picky, which is kinda the reason I started this in the first place. Jo...

Re: Finding the right crossguard for early 11th Cent. Danes?

The Oakshotte typology is by and large the standard when it comes to sword classification, but it glosses over the viking age a bit. The Geibig typology ( link here ) is what I've been looking at in my research. I believe a Geibig Type 5 is most appropriate, which shows the brazil nut pommel I previ...

Finding the right crossguard for early 11th Cent. Danes?

Some cursory research (which I am not citing at this time due to, I'll be honest, laziness) has led me to information indicating that at the beginning of the 11th century (think Sven Forkbeard and the Danes post St. Brice's Day Massacre and becoming King of Denmark and England), Scandinavians began ...
