Very nice! You're using a raising hammer, I'd presume.

Re: New Plate, Legs and new Helms with new pictures
Nakos, Interesting. We do a Korean bluing technique with steel jewelry, then quench it in oil, but I've never thought to do that.... going to have to burn some oil on steel soon, me thinks. I'm sure everybody would be interested in durability.... hmmm... now that's got me thinking about so many appl...

Re: New Plate, Legs and new Helms with new pictures
The black and white photo is black and white style before we ground and polished the black away. The Black was a result of the heat treatment and quenching and shows that we could do SS in black and white if someone wanted it. The all 'white' armour above it is the same armour after the final polis...

Okay! I didn't know that was polish... is that more course than Tripoli, or is the black just a trick of the light?

Re: Gothic Plate, Legs and new Helms
The breastplate is Maximillian. The Helm is a Close helm with a sparrow beak. Not a Burgeonet. Burgeonets have hinged cheek plates. :) Corrections made. Thanks for the right name Irish. As soon as I saw it my brain went D'oh that's the right one. Nakos Correct me if I'm wrong, but I always thought ...

Tech Schools
The post by LastKnight made me think of something when I saw his ingenious improvised stake (yes, it really is pretty good use of available resources! :D ) If you haven't thought of this, consider technical colleges (Machinist programs) as a possible source for tools. For example, at our high school...

Re: Helm dishing (Could use some direction)
If you can get a raising hammer and a 'ball' stake, then you can move the metal to where there are gaps. Another solution would be to use this area for a comb. Also, if you already have a ball stake, then planishing a bit might help with that area as well.
Graham's idea is also good.

Re: Bench Grinder question
We have two buffing wheels in my classroom and neither is for a wire wheel, so... for a stitched buff, we have tapered spindles that will accept any size hole, it's very nice, since you just place the wheel on the end and allow it to be screwed on by the spindle. Of course, for a wire wheel, you nee...

Thanks Gerhard, I'm enjoying looking in here. A lot of talent and enthusiasm!
I am going to look into the book, if I learn even one new technique or tip from it, I'm a pretty happy customer!

Re: Hello all!
Thanks all! Yup, I agree, some details could be better, but then, I do this for fun, so I'm pretty happy with it. Also, once the harness is done, then it just collects dust, so making it is the main point for me. Some comments: Yes, this is my second full armor. It's going to be a 3/4 harness, not a...
