If the bars stay in place, the bars stay in place, they are probably brass plated. It looks less than minimum standards but I am not an expert at pictures on the internet.

How big around is the great helm?

I am currently using a hard 1/4 inch foam on the pressure points with a soft 1/2 inch foam in the gaps. Then I am using a cap made of linen with quilted bamboo silk inside. The cap will need to be changed out as it compacts over time, but the foam can just stay put.
