I will be returning this weekend to fighting after 6 long months rehabbing my torn ACL - no surgery though. I have found Yoga a much needed stretching regime that I was lacking before. You haven't stretched until you do a 6 pack of sun salutations, I know some on this board who do quite a bit more. ...

Last summer I was charging during a melee and don't remember much more except seeing the marshall as I was stumbling around. Apparently a gent with a 2 handed great axe misjudged my speed and hit me with the haft rather than the head right square on top of my helm. Upon inspection later I realized m...

Thanks all for the replies. I was discussing the helmet padding with a marshall that has been one for awhile. He didn't seem to be open to the idea at all, period. Most of the time he is pretty open minded but then he is worried for my safety. He is one of my best friends so I don't think he is a je...

Helmet Padding SCA
I live in Northshield and was discussing helmet padding with a marshall. I was told that an authentic linen liner would not pass as the requirement is 1/2 inch of resilient or closed cell foam - section A, helms, f in the Society Manual. So is this the case or is a linen liner as discussed on Forth ...

I got hooked doing a 45 mn Yoga program that is done primarily on a chair that stretches the upper body and neck really well. I was also intruduced to surya namaskar and like that better as it works the entire body really well. I have taken much of the chair program and use it sporadically during th...

Yoga?
I have been working out pretty regularly since last September. At the end of Nov. I tore my ACL but was lucky and did not need Surgery. Since then, I have become addicted to lifting and cardio - I lift 3 times a week and hop on the exercise 3 times a week. This past weekend my lady and I attended a ...

Wyndreth Berginsdottir is one of my favorites to listen to when going to an event. She is a laurel from Northshield who has some amazing songs in a Norse style. I highly recommend her to any person looking for some good songs. Her website is: www.savagedaughter.com

Due to a recent knee injury I will be conceding the fight. My biggest scare is that I may automatically drop to the knees cuz it is programmed in. I have done this before when I have been having knee problems and it is a bad thing. I have tried just sitting down and fighting crossed legged, back whe...

I have used Mace and Shield for four years pretty much exclusively. The mace I use is a 4 rattan clicker mace with a thrusting tip. It is a bit on the heavy side and can become a pain if fighting on a real bridge all day . Like everyone said the thing is to keep it moving and attack, attack, attack....

I have only been in the SCA for a year now so I can see how some people would buy this helm. Yes it is not authentic etc. etc. but to an untrained / uneducated eye it may look kewl. Many people buy things that they picture a Conan etc. type hero wearing because it gives them a little escape. I playe...

This rule seems a little harsh to me. I am not thinking of the seasoned fighter being put out but for new people getting into armour this could be a problem. Plastic armour is cheaper and most of the time easier to make/buy for the beginner. I believe getting people that are interested in fighting i...

Leather Greaves Sources
I am looking for books that have reference or show pictures of paintings of leather greaves. I am currently working on some leather greaves that are based on a picture in the Osprey Men-At-Arms, Armies of Medieval Russia 750-1250. I am planning on entering them as an A&S function in the future thus ...

I have used a 110v lincoln welder for years that is my father in laws. We use a co2 mix so you can run hotter and cleaner. If you run the right wire speed and gas mix it is a rather clean weld. I find that it works excellent on light metals and is nothing to switch the spools to go from reg steel to...

I recently made a knee length gambeson and used just over 5 yards of 64wide material. I used the pattern...
