Damn, thanks Dmitriy! THis image is right next to the Khazar helmet: http://tgorod.ru/contentimage/kuban/case6.jpg Are these finds contemporary to that helmet? ANd is that another, one-piece raised helmet in the bottom right corner? Looks about the right size, but I don't want to jump to conclusions...

Aside from the fact that the Norman kite shields are being used as tables in some of the scenes on the Bayeux Tapestry, I haven't seen anything to solidly conclude that they are flat. Haven't looked all that hard though. If anyone would be willing to forward me a few of the core emails from the disc...

Hey Chris I am at school right now, when I get home I'll post some info from a book I have, 'Anglo Saxon Weapons and Warfare'. It's got a leather quiver and a bone wrist guard in it. The author Wace writes somewhat later of the Norman archers wearing leather caps as well, looking at the tapestry it ...

Are you surprised by this, or just posting it as an observation? To my mind this is the most logical thing in the world. Actually, no. Sorry to get all serious, but making a guy do pell work for months before actually fighting is a very alien idea to me.
