German Copper smith videos

Hi, There is a whole series of German videos from the early 60's that show crafts that are disappearing. I found these copper smithing videos that show some interesting hammers. No water powered hammers. preview 12 min https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JCWGhNBoW6Q&list=WL&index=2&t=0s full video 51 mi...

Looking for photo showing asymmetric gauntlets

I seem to remember a photo showing a knight with different gauntlets on each hand. 1 fingered and the other articulated plate. 15c? And I remember it from here.

Anyone remember them?

I think the first one is actually an very early SCA helm. The rivets look like the head of a nail.

Re: The Palazzo Ducale bascinet.

In the mean time, though, I've been experimenting with brass borders. I started with a well annealed strip of .032" (.8mm) C260 brass, and tried to get it curved enough to rivet onto a knee cop from the dung heap. The trick is to get it bent around with its inner edge off the anvil surface.... Mac ...

Chuck, do you know of anyone else who has information on that hammer other than Boccia? I will see if he says anything about the size, the pictures of Tod's reproductions seem to have the same sort of proportions as the B&W photo of the original. I don't think I saw it when I was in Venice, I visit...

Re: The Palazzo Ducale bascinet.

I have only cast bronze once (from a horse**** and straw and grog mould in a clay furnace) but I think that the 'fire-breathing dragon' warhammer in Italy was made that way, and casting the ottone rondel around a iron pin would probably work. That bronze/steel war hammer has a steel core that is al...

Re: Mac's blog

Sorry, it was not Tommaso Missaglia. It is signed by the unknown Maestro P. Of Lombardy and is in the Met. They have it attributed to Pietro da Castello (Italian, Brescia, documented 1469–86, died before 1498)

From the life of William Marshall Just a note: even on his death bed, William first and foremost thought about his household knights. Make sure the toluene is completely dry before getting anything close to it that has a flame or even a spark. The stuff is highly flammable. It does not need a flame to start. Careful!
