Re: What's the latest best helmet padding available?

The best? (assuming you still need it) IMO is shocktec gel. I have taken a bunch of hard shield punches to the face (when I was on the ground) and I barely felt a thing. No headach after.

The system is 3/4" gel and about 1/2"ish historical padding.

A polite plea for aid after the post office messed up.

To make a long story short, I ordered a helmet from the Jolly Knight, they made it, shipped it. The local post office gave me bad info multiple times and shipped it back to Ukraine despite telling me they would not do so. There are no real options for a refund (trust me, I have tried). I don't have ...

Re: Chin Straps and Padding

I have a new helm with a mail aventail. I need to pad it and install a chin strap. I have not done this in quite a while. For SCA rattan combat, what are the present best practices to optimize safety and minimize concussions. Several people told me they are using tactical suspension systems, such a...

Did he mention anything about having a single bit of padding vs having it done out in sections that do not touch each other. Nope, but I am filling any gaps. Interesting. My question comes because when I look at design of advanced football helmets, I noticed a trend of many sections of padding vs o...

I don't have experience, but I do have some info. I talked to the guy behind Trinity (you can too, he is receptive on FB).
He is doing supervised off shore production. His gauntlets look good and I recall seeing people happy with them.

My advice would be reaching out to him if you have facebook.

Padded c belt, pourpoint, basic garb (tunic and maybe pants), 14th century surcoat (ideally reversible), arming cap, fencing hood are all things I need to get.

I also know people looking for normal gambesons and for a more robe style of gambeson,

Re: NEGATIVE REVIEW OF ARMOURANDCASTINGS.COM BEATHAN ET AL

Depends on the value of the purchase. Shipping plus insurance costs of actual 16th century armor lots from auctions can run thousands of dollars. Buy a really nice, custom made $20,000 suit from Kiev, insurance will be damn high. Plus, the convenience of you walking your boxes through customs, whic...

Re: Concussions and CTE

Valid concerns with traumatic brain injury will unfortunately destroy heavy fighting in the SCA. The good news is we'll have fencing. If we changed our rules for helmet padding (No blue foam or similar foam like yoga mat, etc.) nd mandated heavier guage helms (IMO 14g should be the minimum), it wou...

One practice I ended with greatsword. Duke Brannos asked me what I was doing, I replied that I was committing suicide, he offered to help and we did a few passes (which mostly went as expected). One of the last passes, he moved in and I flipped to a halfsword position and face thrusted him when he w...
