Re: Some 3d armour!
That 3d rendering looks gorgeous by the way. I think that a lot of medieval esque video games these days can't really pull off good looking fantasy armor, it all comes out looking too generic. More historical rendering I say! Bravo, my good man!

Re: Search for more pics of a specific recreated armour
In the red circle, those rivets are likely attaching the lames to articulating leathers to give the shoulder flexibility and movement. But if you are interested in this sort of armor specifically, I would recommend reviewing Mathias Goll's thesis on 15th century armor. There are literally tens of th...

It's really nice to see some pictures of people actually wearing armor instead of you know.. empty suits. A fine display in any case! are there any collection of pictures like this but of 16th century armor?

Re: What do you use for Padding Helmets etc?
I have a question: how are most late 16th century (1560+) close helms lined? I want to make one as soon as I finish my gorget, breast and back but have been able to find very little info concerning this topic.

Re: Jeremy's harness build.
I've been using a number 2 oxy-propane welding tip, simply because it's really all I had for spot heating for a long time. I've had pretty favorable results, very minimal oxidization and propane is so cheap compared to acetylene. It takes a little bit longer for me to heat a pass but I can still eas...

Getting in the habit of starting from scratch (by this I mean studying the original pieces and then developing your own patterns based on original pieces) is the best to have if you want to make quality functional pieces.

Re: Dishing / Raising Question
Depends on the time frame you are looking at. Most bevors I've looked at from the 15th century don't have much mobility. The 16th century is when they really started to implement articulated gorgets and the bevors for the helmets made with those suits are articulated and have excellent mobility. Nor...

Re: Dishing / Raising Question
Museums are the best places to look, if you have a chance get yourself the wallace collection's digital catalogue, it contains thousands of pictures of many different suits (real suits, made by real armorers). Signo's right, if you mix your observations with commercial armor and museum armor, you'll...

Re: Dishing / Raising Question
You're still going to learn how to raise working cold. But like most old men, Wade knows his stuff. Hot raising, (if you plan to do alot of armoring in the future) is an invaluable technique. You really don't need much, my forge consists of a metal wheel barrow, a blow dryer (that cost me 20$) and s...

Re: 1888 Archaeologica article on Henry VIII's armour for fo
Wow. So now we see the birth of some of the oldest misconceptions about armor. The first paragraph says that if he fell while wearing this suit, it would be impossible for him to rise unassisted and then says that he would not be able to move with any speed or agility while on his feet wearing the s...

I would also like point out (if it's not already known) that most elbow points (on the well made cops) have an apex that is slightly more towards the rear brace side. Don't belive me? Take a good long close careful look. This design actually caters more to the shape of the human elbow. Just FYI. Zach

I found the thread immensely helpful as far as articulation and lame design go.
