Re: The Palazzo Ducale bascinet.

Just a thought; Some high end cameras save all information about the photo in the image metadata. If the images that you are not at liberty yo publish were taken with such a camera you can find out what focal length, aperture and so on the pictures have by right clicking the image (PC), choose prope...

Re: The Palazzo Ducale bascinet.

Here is what I meant with my edit above. I have highlighted the curve of the visor point in red. Is that visible? I've "weaseled up" the snout a bit. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/ufPeYKtNkTFAibYF0HORIfwW6t-c_Da90iB34GmwUDpm_10i_3zHqM43rYvJ-0cKs7SJcfssyF4TnpheZ5HkLSIeEOZDE0SdhzmNnuc8iD2mw7oJtVx...

Re: The Palazzo Ducale bascinet.

Mac, Looking at these new pictures I can spot 2 more small things that you might want to turn your attention to if you are bent on getting it exact. 1. The transition from the brow area down towards the ocularia is well defined in your visor and a smooth transition in the original. It is easiest to ...

Re: The Palazzo Ducale bascinet.

Hi Mac, I'm usually just lurking about here but i thought I'd give you my 50 cents. Looking at the first 2 comparisons it seems like your angle from the... nose up to where the occularia will be is much more acute than on the original where the transition is much more smooth and less defined. Does i...

If you decide to go to Malmö, you can also reach out to Per Lillelund who lives about 1 hour on a commuter train east of Malmö close to a town called Ystad.

Re: Dusting off the cobwebs

Will you be doing a normal hem on the bottom of the sallet or something different? A small square hem would look great and tie in nicely with the bevor and pauldrons.

Ever heard of the Stendahl Syndrome? The picture above with the besagews gives me that.

Re: Modifying my gauntlets

Thanks for the tips! Looking at your picture Wade, the flutes are very subtle and not at all as pronounced as on my pair and with this the restriction in motion amplifies when the flutes don't line up. I had not considered lengthening the slots but since they are already a tad too long I think I'll ...

Re: Modifying my gauntlets

Yep! As I wrote in the first post, it seems like they have inverted the flutes between the lame and the metacarpal plate but looking at their previous work it all lines up. The smith is unreachable and a friend of mine never received his gauntlets. It is crappy work and all the things you mention Ga...

Modifying my gauntlets

A while back a had a pair of gauntlets made based on Wades A-213. The blacksmith had previously posted some pictures with excellent grasp of how the articulation should work and how one plate should meet the next. I believe however that some time between those photos and the creation of mine, there ...

Re: Goll's Thesis Topic #4: Interesting New (to you) Objects

Sure! https://www.facebook.com/groups/xivcenturyeuropeanarmour/ I'll try. The whole harness seems to be laced at the back and instead of sewn holes for the lace there seems to be brass aiglets. To me this might indicate that it is a later reproduction (or perhaps restoration). So, what I was asking ...

Re: Goll's Thesis Topic #4: Interesting New (to you) Objects

There is a discussion about this on Facebook as well. You have countless of hours staring att paintings and originals Mac, whats your take on the aiglets? I was looking into this a while back and could only find aiglets with e.g. flower on the front for belts and from the second half of the 15th cen...

Mac, would heat reflective PPE work to extend the time you can spend in the inferno enough? Re: Has anyone tried making HEMA style hand protection?

For many years the development of hand protection for HEMA practitioners have been stagnant with the bulky sparring gloves as the standard. Saint Mark as mentioned above have moved towards more motion for the fingers and they are quite good. For a few years the ProGauntlet has been in development (i...

One way to do it without losing too much quality is to screenshot the entire image fully zoomed and then stich the screengrabs back together in photoshop. Takes time but the quality would still be there.

Re: Dusting off the cobwebs

I´ve always been a silent follower of your awesome work Mac and I really appreciate how much I learn from this thread!
