Very valuable information here! I've completely re-thunk how I'm going to do my sallet liner.
Armed with this new knowledge, I'm suddenly glad I procrastinated so long.

This is very cool. I never met Will- but I almost feel like a "fringe acquaintance" from my time spent here.
I'm so glad to see a piece of him living on in something like this.

It worked out quite well. The concrete has developed a couple of cracks, but otherwise holding up fine. Probably would have done even better if I had been more patient and let the concrete cure longer!

To take the edge off that depression, I suggest we should throw a big keg party to celebrate the completion of your project....the inevitable postpartum depression that accompanies the end of all big projects.

Re: Oxy-Propane torch setup
For armor work, I switched from Acetylene to Propane, and I love it.
Victor set up- I use a few different welding tips depending on size flame I want. I find myself using the #3 a lot.
Not sure what size that translates to for your setup. But I can definitely recommend Oxy/Propane.

The sallet still needs rivets, catch, and liner- but I felt like moving on to something else for a bit. So, I started the arms. I'm scrapping the Italian arm, and going with a pair in the German style. Here are the beginnings of the rerebraces. Their construction is based on Goll 490, but mine are m...

I decided to try punching the interior bits. I took a dremel to a large cut nail to make a temporary "hot chisel/punch". This is how I used it. Mac- that page is pretty enlightening. Using 'counter-punches' to form the inside of the design *before* filing the outside makes a lot of sense.

Touchmark
I decided to make a touchmark punch, so I could start 'signing' my work. Anybody here made such a thing? Here's how I'm doing it. I started with some automotive spring. It's a pain to uncoil, but is good steel for tools. IMG_5387.JPG Once I had a design I was happy with, I printed it out in the appr...

Awesome! I had wondered how you would prep the cuirass for the heat dunk. I got a good laugh out of your weedburner comments. I bought the same HF torch, hoping to use it in a propane forge I was building. Needless to say, it's definitely more of a flamethrower than a precision heat source! And guzz...

Thanks folks! Mac- You got that right. The more I polished, the more scratches and dings I found that I didn't realize were there. I definitely learned a lot during that process. There are still plenty of imperfections if you look closely. So, I stopped looking closely. =) From a few steps away all ...
