I don't think I'm going to bury the helmet though. It has a liner sown in.
I heard somewhere that mustard can be applied to the surface then removed with wire wool after a few days. Has anyone tried this or know some other technique ?

I don't know if I'm in the right place for this but I have a copy of a 15th century kettle hat that is new and shiny and I want to give it a patina that makes it look aged. How do I go about this without taking up too much time ? I don't like bright shiny armour personally.

I'm looking for photos of rivet washers used in armour before 1400. Is there a difference say between rivet washers on helms of the 14th century and those found on 15th century plate armour ?
