Re: Identification of a helmet fragment
Fantastic ! Thanks for all your input . I certainly appreciate your opinions even if I don't agree with some. I think the helm (or what's left of it !!) in question is early but I would be quite happy to be proved totally wrong by you gentleman who know what they are talking about . On my example th...

Re: Identification of a helmet fragment
Thank you Klaus. That's very interesting. I don't suppose we have profile photos of that helmet ? Out of interest is the visor original ? I think we can exclude anything from the 15th century and I think it's no later than 1550 and probably much earlier. I once thought it might be an early 16th cent...

Identification of a helmet fragment
I have part of a helmet in my collection that I am not able to identify. I have looked at thousands of helmets and I've failed to find something exactly like it. I've just showed it to Tobias Capwell and David Edge at the Wallace but they didn't know what it is either. I would really like to k...

A Barbute for sale at Herman Historica
I wonder if we could discuss this Barbute which is for sale with Herman Historica. It appeared on the market in the 1990s and has previously sold before by Herman Historica. It has no provenance prior to the first sale with Herman Historica. It is said to have been in a fire. I have doubts about thi...

Re: Light patina on shiny new armour
Thanks Gustovic.
I don't think I'm going to bury the helmet though. It has a liner sown in.
I heard somewhere that mustard can be applied to the surface then removed with wire wool after a few days. Has anyone tried this or know some other technique ?

Light patina on shiny new armour
I don't know if I'm in the right place for this but I have a copy of a 15th century kettle hat that is new and shiny and I want to give it a patina that makes it look aged. How do I go about this without taking up too much time ? I don't like bright shiny armour personally.

Re: Rivet washers before 1400
Thank you Jason. In fact I'm thinking of both categories. I think my request is difficult as there is little "archeological" evidence before 1400 surviving pieces being scarce

Rivet washers before 1400
I'm looking for photos of rivet washers used in armour before 1400. Is there a difference say between rivet washers on helms of the 14th century and those found on 15th century plate armour ?

I'll take 3 of them !
My friend had a sword that was a water find and on the blade was a cross that bore resemblance to a Templar Cross. When he came to sell it ,it was only 8000 Euros
