Plume while fighting on foot

Curious, I am a BIG fan of the whole feather plume decoration on helmets thing, and I know it's a common practice to wear one with your jousting kit. I was wondering if it was feasible to wear a modest feather plume, more of a horsehair plume, while fighting on foot? I am aware that swords/rattan mi...

Getting pieces to fit properly

So far i've just been eyeballing pieces, like making one lame then eyeballing in to make the second fit correctly, and smacking it until in fits somewhat decently. My question, is there any way to make this process easier/faster? I've heard of hot fitting pieces, like gripping the two together in so...

Making a T stake, and other kinds

So I've been wanting to get my hands on a couple stakes, as in T stakes and other non-ball stakes. So I've been wondering, what's the process to making a functional hunk of useable metal? What kind of steel should I use? How should I treat it? How should I harden it? I think I can grasp the the conc...

Reason I don't want to raise my own- In SCA combat, I don't really trust my hands to make something to protect my head jello at this current time. :)

Greathelm with a Corrazina

Would a big ol' bucket helm look out of place atop a corrazina? I am looking to make a decent 14c harness, plate legs/arms, and corrazina, yet I do not feel comfortable raising helmets (though I would love to make a pigface at some point. So, that's where the greathelm comes in, easy to make and loo...

Re: Dumbest armouring injury

Two- One was nearly disabling- My first few months of armouring, I decided "Oh, I don't need to use eye protection when cutting metal!" (lol), Turns out, cutting with a hand shear locked into a vice can produce a LOT of extra force, which caused a 5" metal piece to fly about a centimeter away from m...

Re: Thickness for 14th century harness

Thanks much for the responses, and I will be referring to thehandbook religiously. Lanky? I hope not too much, else all my weightlifting is for nought ;) though, I do appreciate the fact that I'm probably not as strong as I like to think I am, so I will try to keep everything as lightweight as I can...

Thickness for 14th century harness

So i've been poking around on the web and here for something related to proper plate thickness for a 14th century harness (thickness for corrazina plates, aswell as thickness's for arm and leg harness's), to no avail. So I ask- What are the proper thicknesses in guages of individual pieces of plate ...

Re: is this feasible?

As I said, classes will be included in said expenditures :) Also as I said, I expect to be learning for MANY years before starting a business of any kind, so I won't be hopping into the great unknown, not knowing anything and then being driven out of the tiny niche business world that is armoring. A...

Got started on the lames for the pauldron, will be using leather strips for articulation due to time constraints (and it's just easy c:) Also, will be starting a period piece- 14th century harness, corrazina with plate legs and arms. It'll be an interesting under...

Unfortunate on the fake bit, what with full Metal jousting being a thing I would've thought there would be some brutal foot combat to match it haha, thanks!

HEAVIER SCA combat :) ?

Just wondering,

As in jousting, there is the more tourney style with balsa wood lances, and there is the full contact, throw you off a horse and break your neck jousting,

Is their a metal (blunted swords, axes, spears and so on) alternative to SCA heavy combat (IE Rattan weapons) ?

Re: Road to Knighthood- Jousting and Combat

Good thing about my career is I'm *hoping* to be a full time armourer, if not that then atleast shape metal for a living, so the SCA will always be a 'part' of that, no matter how small ;)

Thanks a ton.

So. I started out on the forum being infatuated with armouring, which I still am. But, thanks to this, I have now become equally infatuated with jousting and foot combat, or SCA Fighting. Eventually, with a goal of Knighthood. So, my goals in life so far- Run an armouring business and become a Knigh...

I have no good way of dishing or raising (my anvil is not on the ideal 'stand', it's kinda just on a stool atm, and the only 'dishing form' I have is a roll of tape) so, i've had to make due with a lot of triangles and lame flat surfaces, when I can't find a good place to curve them that is. I'm wor...
