Re: Where to find a good 16th century helm?

They are on the pricy side (not that I remember how much). However, 16th century helms typically run high. Specialized market, and a lot of technical work required t build one.

I wear hexpad double thudd shorts. They work well until someone lands a blow outside of the padding. I need to reconsider things.

You want to go to Milan if you want to geek out on Da Vinci. I wish I did more when I was there.

Re: Where in Italy should an armour enthusiast go?

In Milan Sforza castle has a nice armor collection. Otherwise, I was at Doge's palace in Venics, along with Musseo Correr. None of them had roman stuff though. I made a Flicker album of the vacation, if you want to sneak a peek at some of the museum photos I took... https://www.flickr.com/photos/144...

My knees feel much better when I weigh less. Less weight = less load = less stress.

My upper arms are pretty much un-covered, but my jack does cover the point of the shoulders. It hasn't been an issue, other than the occasional arm shot that hits.

It's an interesting question. My gut reactions are torn between "Whatever armor is no longer in fashion" and "If you're poor, you can't afford armor, period". Nothing to back up those assessments though.

I've had it a few times outside of the field. Kind of embarrassing when my wife and I were in Cork and someone threw a spent lighter at us. I saw it coming, and without thinking twisted out of the way. The only issue was my wife was walking behind me... She wasn't very happy.

if/when you're ready fro PT, get one that will work with you to get you where you want to be (or close to it). My wife tore her meniscus jogging. First PT had her do some work, and Ok'd my wife to go back to rollerskating (she does rec league roller derby). Really painful when she got on skates. Nex...

Work on the mental aspects of the game. Analyze people fighting to figure out how their styles work (or don't work). Do whatever exercise you are allowed to do. It's hard, I was out for close to 2 years due to injuries.

Never did post this to AA.... Last year I was growing out my beard for a Steampunk con (going for muttonchops), and a member at our practice kept calling me SCA Santa. Northshield has a 12th night event every year, and I decided to go as a 14th century Santa (I know, Santa wasn't a thing then, but I...

Nice! I pretty much have started mine over. I made the cloth pieces way too big. I'm in the process of mocking it up again to confirm the fit. At least I only had 1 side piece laced up wiht plates before I checked the fit.

Watch out for flavors being absorbed by wood. I was competing in an A&S showcase, with my entry being a beer redaction. One of the judges was wondering about the coffee notes. We figured out that the wooden cup he was using had coffee in it sometime in the past, and absorbed the flavor. No more usin...

I think it was Spike TV. Show would of been a lot better if it lost the competition aspect, and just had experts geeking out over the weapons and armor.

I'm sure someone else will come back with better details, but I don't think they had used anything near what is considered a scutum in the 14th century.
