Re: Bazubands and spear

Thanks guys. My one-trick-pony fighting style is basically founded on the idea that I will poke people in the face half an inch before they think I can, so that 10% might be crucial for me. Looks like I'll stick with cops.

Bazubands and spear

Hi guys,

I'm thinking of building some plastic (hidden) bazubands, but I have never worn that kind of arm protection, so I have a question.

Is it possible to fully extend the arm (think "spear thrust") in bazubands? It looks to me like they must limit extension at some point.

Awesome coronets & necklaces for Valentines, mostly for her

EvaJohanna studios have a name for coronets, 16th century "Cranach" collars and much other wonderful medieval-ness (alongside some cool, freaky steampunky stuff.) And just now they are having a Valentine's sale at a whopping 25% off for a few days... https://fbcdn-sphotos-f-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak...

See more of Eva Johanna's work (she's also called Baroness Nordmark in the SCA) at her Facebook page. Coronets, collars and nucleases for the ladies, pure fantasy and even some freaky steampunk stuff. I think it's brilliant, but she's my wife. ;) https://www.facebook.com/evajohanna.arts.crafts?fref=...

Nah, Sutton Hoo is centuries before what we usually call Viking - though it has been suggested that the dynasty were fairly recently arrived from Scandinavia.

Re: Celtic/Gaelic armor??

(I'm assuming SCA, as you use the word persona .) Hmm, I think you'll need to pin yourself down more by location and date. "Gaelic" refers to members of a language group, up to and including modern Scottish, Irish and Manx people - but I doubt you'll want to be wearing modern military uniform. ;) If...

Re: Artist looking for help on leg armor in general

The links in mail have plenty of room to move (there is much more air than metal), so mail is very flexible - there is no "grinding". Bending a knee is absolutely no problem. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oC0qDPrW718 I would say skirts are not especially common in the history of armour. You have An...

PS Karl, I believe you were Prince of Drachenwald at my very first event (Ferris Barracks, Erlangen). Thanks for the inspiration! There are not many things that I enjoy hearing more than that. Re: Crowns, coronets, circlets, laurel wreaths...

Thanks all. My wife makes these from vintage and modern castings and jewels, and from hand-made parts. I watch her do it every day, and the the detail and care is extraordinary. She even has "secret features" which only the owner and the maker know about... She's recently put an extended portfolio o...

My wife makes beautiful crowns, coronets, circlets and other medieval or historically-inspired bling like necklaces and collars. I think it is stunning stuff, but take a look yourself. Re: Museum Collection in GERMANY (not Russia)

I walked into this place for the first time this month (I'm local to it).

If it's real, it's a *stunning* collection - way better than, say, the Germanisches Nationalmuseum.

So, although I don't have the knowledge to judge, I am dubious.

Wanted: SCA helm, suitable for 600 AD Anglian; new or used

Hi guys, I've been away, but I'm back and looking for a helm for my new SCA armour. I'm going for a 600 AD East Anglian, but not the Sutton Hoo helm. (Too famous :) ) I know there are no extant helms from this place and period, but it might be based on continental or Scandinavian examples... I'm out...

Re: How did the men-at-arms in southern europe deal with hea

1. Pre-hydrate. 2. Wear a linen or wool inner layer. On hot days, soak it (and wring it out) before you fight. Works wonders. 3. Always seek shade. PS Germany can get pretty hot. We get several days each year over 35 degree days (95 fahrenheit), and the maximums are over 100 F. It's not Death Valley...

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Re: This is Why you want to be a Landesknecht

As the beautiful Wilhelmina says, we have here neither Landsknecht, Bumlerine or Kampfrauen. These are the clothes of wealthy citizens at court or at a fancy social occasion, not for slogging through the mud or sitting at the campfire. You'd find these in the "high end later period German" rack. i s...

Want a replica stoneage handaxe (eg flint)

Hi!

This is majorly non-medieval, but I'm looking for someone selling replica stone tools.

I'd like a European hand-axe (doesn't really matter which period) of sufficient quality to serve as a gift to a professional archaeologist.

Does anyone know a reputable source?

Cheers
