I read the expression "forget yourself" as "leave yourself behind" or "transcend yourself".

Might I therefore suggest the word "deserere" - to abandon, forsake or leave behind (the word desert comes from it).

Thus, "te desere"

The correct pronunciation of the pirate greeting is "Arrrrrrrrrr!" with a very strong pronunciation of the "R". I'd be very interested in trying one out if you are making them rebated.

But it would need to be 18 inches long (6 inch grip and 12 inch blade) not 14. 14 inches is way too short!

I have one of those black gambesons - it has served me well over 3 years. It is fairly thin but then I also have one of Revival Clothing's mega-thick-gambesons and that is THICK! Nice gloves!

I have a pair of these and have been testing them with longsword drilling and light sparring (no of course they are not full contact gloves!) - they are really well made - very tight stitching, and give really good "feel" (contact) for grappling at close range. What is the best gauge leather to use to construct a corrazina of leather backed with steel plates? Any thoughts?

No worries. His armour is very interesting, and the effigy although old and decayed, still has lots of detail, e.g. his leather greaves fully enclose his lower legs, and are laced closed by a lacing system up the inside of his calf (not buckled). Stand by for the pics http://www.armourarchive.org/ub...
