Re: A few things for sale
I'd looked at these a while back, but now the photos aren't available. Has everything been sold?

Re: Positive review of haaschnp
I'll add another positive review for Nick. He posted a hat on ebay that I bought - too snug for him, but I have a small cranium. The price was good, his communication was great (I had a question about who made it), and it arrived a few days earlier than the shipping estimate. The hat is in new, unus...

Re: Medieval Toys FS
Can you provide photos from a few different angles, with a ruler in at least one photo for size reference? I'd like to run them by my authenticity officer before buying a set.

Very nice! I picked up one of the Hanwei Tinker Viking swords when the price dropped dramatically a few months ago, and I'm planning on a similar makeover. Good inspiration here!

Re: WTB Winingas
I've ended up with several sets of winingas, and I have an extra pair from Historic Enterprises gathering dust in my closet. They're blue and grey wool, woven in a herringbone pattern, and have never been worn. I'll sell them for $20, shipping in the US included. PM me if you're interested.

Re: What is the appeal of "Early Period?"
The pics you use and the question you pose makes me wonder: Are armour and clothing the only reasons you involve yourself in reenactment?
And I am unconvinced that early portrayals, when done right, are any easier or cheaper than later ones.
PS: Earlier portrayals = no codpieces.

Thanks for checking. If he does make one, I'm very interested.
If anybody else in Archive-land can make a chest kit like this, and is interested in doing so, please PM me with details.

I own a pair of WWI puttees, and a set of wickelbander woven as closely to the specs of historical examples as I could find. They are similar (wool, roughly the same width), but not identical. None of which changes my point: I've seen no evidence that they were in use in Scandinavia between the two ...

I don't think I would use them for that era, personally. Yes, these were in use during the Viking Age. Yes, something similar were in use during WWI. I've never seen any evidence they were used in between. I'll play the role of Missouri and say "show me evidence!" then I'll be happy to change my opi...

Re: Viking helms w cheek pieces
To you and C. Gadda, I can only say "I agree." However, I think that lack of evidence must be considered, and personally I feel it more appropriate to err on the side of caution rather than slide too far down the "well, they could have" slope.Guran wrote:Lack of evidence is not equivalent to evidence against.

Re: Viking helms w cheek pieces
When one further considers the clear existence of cheekplates before the Viking Age, and significant artistic and literary mention afterwards, it seems baseless to suggest that, during the Viking Age, all knowledge of such helmets vanished, only to magically reappear after 1066... . Ok, Ill bite on...

The problem with your thinking is that the Vendel and Valsgarde helmets may have been in 7th or 8th century burials, but that does not mean this armour was made in the same century. Mord. You are correct. However, just because they were not made in the same century does not mean they were not used ...

Now, if anyone can find an Anglo-Saxon hat that keeps the rain off ya. Well, I've had this clip for quite some time in my "find where this came from" folder. Pretty sure it's Anglo-Saxon, but not sure of the date or what manuscript it's from. http://inlinethumb40.webshots.com/46695/2200920250104644...

The average shoe size for American men is 10, so I would think you'd do well to offer more on the low end of 10 as well. Not a lot of 'average' sized SCAdians ;) Most I know are over average. Really? I'm average height, and when I tried out the SCA it seemed that I fought as many guys shorter than ...
