Realy nice work. I made one like this but it turned out a bit flat without the cross trim. I didn't like the brass ones too but never thought about making them out of stainless steel. Good idea.

I have a big rivet lying around somewhere. I hadn't thought to use it as a stake. Of course, it is from the golden gate bridge so maybe I shouldn't.
~Folcric

Does it mean there are rivets missing on this bridge!!!!

For mine I used a chainsaw to make the first shape and used my angle grinder with a disk for steel to get the depression smooter. You can also buy a disk with the shape of a chainsaw blade to put on your angle grinder. I should not say that but the blade of a circular saw fits on a angle grinder wit...

I was dishing a breastplate with a rubber mallet. If you have ever tryed, for fun, to hit your dishing stump with a rubber mallet and try to make it bounce the same angle you hit it, you'll know what I mean. I had the same problem with the sugarloaf greathelm, the face plate seemed to be a bit too close to my face but if you try to squeeze the helm(bring both ears closer) to make it more oval it may correct the problem a bit

Thank you folks for your advises and I think I'll stick with plasma cutting and grinding cause I hate to get screwed, I can't afford a 600$ shear and any way I don't pay for the grinding disk and plasma I use the ones at work.

I think sandblasting will not do a good job. Cause sandblast was made to remove rust or paint not polish or even the surface. I don't know if theire is many size of sand(I mean the diameter of the grain ). And if you are going to do it, well I hope you'll try it on a piece of scrap before trying on ...

You can also put it in a bucket and let it roll at the back of your car to make it shake zo the zink will remove.

I don't know if the bucket should roll in the trunk or on the paveway, little detail!!!

For the other end you place a peice of wood in a vise you put a hole a bit bigger than 3/8 and you put the other end of the rod in it so even if you go at top speed it will not wobble too much.
