A way to help that problem (see, I can be helpful too :P :) ) 1. When everyone signs in, the MOL creates a card for the Bedford tourney for them. Since everyone is going to be in it eventually anyhow save perhaps the final 4 in the other, might as well get it done ahead of time. Put the cards in alp...

Nope, my personal placement has nothing to do with my opinion, as unless you're doing that on the rapier list as well, it doesn't directly affect me, since that's where I'll be. I don't fight heavy tournaments, it's not my happy place. I just know from experience that when you declare a Tournament f...

I understand the desire, but I do not believe this is a way to get there... By saying "okay, these 32 folks are over here, and the rest of you are over here...and they'll come join you when they get knocked out of the tourney over there"...you are creating a "A list" and a "rest of y'all" list. That...

Great, if you want to focus the event on "best of the best" and create a set of lists of "A list" and "The rest of you scrubs". Otherwise, it's just who you know and what your rep is, not your fighting ability, that gets you into what will be looked at as the "main tournament" (no matter how you spi...

Yes, this is smaller than the typical Atlantian list. I blame the economy, it costs a lot to be an Atlantian King and Queen (probably *any* King and Queen, really), and with gas prices having been near $4/gallon at the time letters of intent were due...I can see a number of folks saying "Can't do it...

If you want your service to be oriented towards the List Field, there are other options as well. If you have a reasonably strong voice and a sense of vocal timing, you can Herald Lists. That serves the fighters (by letting them know it's time to fight) and the general populace (by letting them know ...

An A&S entry is not always required in Atlantia, and if memory serves (I'll admit, as I don't fight in Crowns, I don't follow it closely) it's been a few years since the last time one was required. The Heraldry at least submitted requirement is relatively new to this Kingdom, but seems to be becomin...

New Marshal's Handbook (SCA Society level)

I'm told by a reliable source that the BoD approved the new Marshall's Handbook at their recent meeting.

Included in said Handbook is the long awaited rewrite of CA rules, and several other clarifications/rewrites/etc.

Is there a link available for those of us who want to take a gander?

rapier combat archery is quite cool. There isn't the huge "zomg, this is SERIOUS BUSINESS" that some of the rattan folks have about "their game", so most rapier fighters do not harbor resentment about CA's (at least, so long as the odds are even for all sides). One important thing: You can NOT use s...

"World Class" is a misnomer. It varies by what you do, and what outlets for doing it exist. I didn't say the pinnacle of *their* skill, I said the pinnacle of skill. 1: It might be best to wait until an activity is legal and recognized in all kingdoms before working on a new peerage. Having no rules/marshallate to play under in Calontir is a bigger problem than no peerage IMHO. So one Kingdom's obstinance in declaring "This is not what we do" should be suffecie...
