Gorgeous Anshelm Fluted SS Bascinet with x2 visors + mail

I have a bombshell offer for you. This helm is a gorgeous work of art. It's 14g stainless steel, crafted by Anshelm Arms. Easily fits a 23.5" head, with some flex on either side of that size. The helm includes an interchange setup and both a grill and closed-face visor. There is a flat welded SS Knu...

Re: Old armor cleanup sale! Helms, mail, & more!

I am about a 23.5" head circumference. The celtic spangen fits, but it's not a roomy fit. I used a yoga pad internal liner for padding, which basically makes the helm fit like a glove on my head.

Got a possible taker on the helm #3. That still leaves the mail and helm #2 remaining. Anyone interested in either?

Right now I have people who have expressed interest in helm #1, the steel arms and legs, and the elbow+knee cops.

The other two helms and the mail are still available.

Old armor cleanup sale! Helms, mail, & more!

Hey folks! I've picked up more than a little armor over the years. Living in a small apartment as I do, it's taking up a ton of space, so I am cutting back to a single set. As a result I am selling off all of the extras. I figured I would give the good folk of the Archive first dibs on anything peop...

Re: Review: Anshelm Arms (buyer beware!)

Posting an update for the Archive: Rana was as good as her word. The helm arrived, unfinished (no aventail, no closed visor, no strapping). But we communicated back and forth a few times and worked out that I would send it back, and they'd finish the work and return it to me. The helm arrived yester...

Re: Review: Anshelm Arms (buyer beware!)

Fenian, I totally understand. And I did hesitate before posting this here, but frankly, he is continuing to send threatening emails to me, so I'm not feeling badly about the decision. FWIW, I DO believe that if the seller sends the item as described that the buyer does not have an ethical right to a...

Re: Review: Anshelm Arms (buyer beware!)

I purchased a brigandine from Anshelm. I was promised 4 weeks or something on the delivery but he got it done in less than 2, maybe he was busy. Also the aventail, does he use those welded ones from master Knuut? If that's the case then there was a post I saw weeks ago saying how Master Knuut was b...

You left out the messages you sent to him. This only paints a one sided picture. I included most of mine - I only sent him one additional email. It was after he sent me the "I see you have initiated a payment reversal" and before he sent me the last email (the one which starts with "I'm fighting th...

Review: Anshelm Arms (buyer beware!)

Posting this as a public service announcement due to an *extremely* negative experience, in the hopes that I can help someone else avoid throwing away a thousand dollars. On 5/1/15, I agreed with Luther of Anshelm Arms to buy a stainless fluted bascinet from him. The helm was already complete, but I...

Hope everyone enjoys the book! Thanks to all the support I received, the book hit #107 free overall on Amazon, #3 for Contemporary Fantasy, and #6 for Fantasy overall. As of right now, 2925 people have downloaded the book. It's on a slow slide back down the ranks now, but I'm pretty happy with that....

Go ahead, Russ - you can borrow my thread to mention your book, too. Might check it out myself (I read a LOT). At some point here, I might ask for some volunteers to beta read a book (for fact checking) before sending it out to be published; I have a draft in revision that's historical (not fantasy)...

Re: Zoombang Update 2/28/12

I've been using the original stuff for a while now, and I have to say - I think it does precisely what it's supposed to do, and turns from squishy into a REALLY hard substance instantly on impact. Unfortunately, the pad sections are so small that it often ends up transferring all the impact from a s...

Re: Hidden Armor

Been thinking about this a bit, and Bastior's comments on a lamellar kidney belt crystalized some thinking. Has anyone tried using the plastic lamellar plates as hidden armor? Seems like they might work OK laced together as thigh armor, as well as midsection armor. Right now my thighs are protected ...

Re: Scales for SCA armor

As was mentioned above, Polar Bear does mostly lamellar, but he can change the holes for a special order of scales, and some of his styles are excellent size/shape for early period scale armor. (I looked into this myself, a few years back!)

Re: Like to get some opinions on mail types, please

The odd thing, of course, is that the 5.3mm mail is 82% of the size of the smaller "heroic age" mail finds. So it's not actually *far* too small, it's only 18% too small. ;) I wonder if it's partly our modern eye that makes us assume that the smaller links are wrong, because we're used to seeing mos...

Re: Like to get some opinions on mail types, please

Good point! In context of the discussion this weekend, it was hauberks being talked about, for better kit appearance. Essentially, the ring mesh is a bit higher priced than the aluminum riveted mail but still in the lower cost range, and ARE at least steel, but I have mixed feelings about the "look"...

Re: Scales for SCA armor

Polar Bear Forge would be my recommendation. Good scales, variety of metals to choose from. The RingLord stuff is interesting - I made a shirt from it, many years ago when I had too much time on my hands and not enough sense. ;) But it's not even vaguely period construction.

Had some interesting discussions this past weekend regarding the "Ring Mesh" mail armor. This stuff is welded stainless links 5.3mm ring diameter, using 0.63mm wire. You can see it here: http://www.ringmesh.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=RMM210 It's very similar to the stuff Duke Andreas sells h...

Very sorry to hear you're having troubles, Freiman. I second the thought above about getting a second opinion from a specialist; this is not something small, this is a big deal and something you ought to get checked out.

Best of luck with this.

Ouch. So WOH will be conflicting with Hastings? There's quite a lot of crossover between those two events, because the kit requirements are fairly similar. Shame that folks will have to choose, this year; we hadn't had a conflict yet.
