Re: How to not piss off a Master Armourer
If something falls, whether you drop it or it drops on its own, DO NOT TRY TO CATCH IT. As Keegan said on his #2 point, everything is either hot, heavy, sharp, or a combination of the three. And, as you're working with metal, 9/10 if something falls to the floor it'll be just fine.

Re: Middle-term western-Han dynasty armored warrior illustra
This is fantastic. It's so extremely rare to see any Han-era armour make an appearance anywhere in the recreation scene, especially with the huge dearth of good extant pieces and illustrations. Marvelous.

Re: Questions about fighting in great helms
I'm 5'5" and used a sugarloaf for a while while fighting SCA. Ventilation was never an issue, but as hrolf said, the view got cut short from the waist down when I got up-close and personal with anyone. Really loved that helm, though. Looked purty.

Re: Source for coin screw-press?
have you thought about an arbor press, or fabricating a steel frame around a bottle jack? Not nearly enough force, unless you only want to do very tiny coins. You really want more like 150-200 tons for penny sized coins. $600 is a very good price for a screw press. Which supplier are you looking at...

Re: Source for coin screw-press?
You might try searching the black smithing forums for "fly press" There is one on eBay for 1500+ freight though I suspect your looking for something smaller. a few listings are for much smaller leather tools used to set rivets and grommets. My room mate and I actually just found a site with fly-pre...

Source for coin screw-press?
Anyone know a source for the modern-made equivalent of something along the lines of this? http://www.coinweek.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/screw_press_sf.jpg Yeah, yeah, I know it's only period after 1550, but striking coins the normal way is out of the question for me due to extremely poor upper-...

That's some bad-ass leatherworking there, amigo. And I can't help but chuckle every time I see that commercial on TV with the dude on horseback wearing the armour you made, and say to myself "Heh, I know the guy who made that..."

Using BookFinder4u (my used book source), the cheapest I could find it is a used copy for $96. Not too bad, overall.

Thanks, Jason. I'll PM you my e-mail address you can send it to shortly.
I've glanced through both Osprey books on Landskechts, and while they're better than nothing, I'm genuinely surprised there isn't more in-depth work available regarding the subject.

Landsknecht reading?
Are there any relatively detailed histories of the Landsknechts during their period of activity one might recommend for research? Anytime I do a search for reading on them, I can only find the Osprey book, and would rather have something a little more in-depth. English-translated works are perfectly...

That's unfortunate, but I appreciate the scan posted. Do you believe that someone waging war in the Middle Kingdom during the Three Kingdoms era could have believably worn Later Han armour that we've seen examples of so far?

Re: Armored warrior of early western Han dynasty B.C 206-B.C
HanPiaoJi, are you ever going to tackle some Three Kingdoms era armour to give us "Romance of the Three Kingdoms" fan boys something to work with? I'd go nuts if you put out some work I could use as a basis for armour of my own for the period. Also, do you know of any English-translated sources I co...

Han, I think I stumbled upon your website a year or two ago, because I saved the photos of the "Armour of the Han Dynasty" onto my Photobucket album and want to use that as a basis for a future reenactment kit. Your work, simply, is superb. I haven't seen anyone capture the look of the Han Dynasty q...

Looks quite nice. My preference for Chinese history is for Later Han/Three Kingdoms Era, but that is an extremely well-made suit. Best of luck honing your horseback skill to the levels you demand of yourself.

Re: Lamellar Aventail? Anyone?
Han Chinese armour, due to the extensive use of lamellar plating, suggests it might've also been used for aventails. Guy in China, whose basic kit I'll be designing my future Han Chinese kit off of, made a very good reproduction. http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y123/madnessgonesane/SCA%20Related/Ha...
