Re: Need help with historical fiction idea development

"The armourer and his craft" by Charles Ffoulkes has some biography's in the back that you might find useful. I would though note it is an older book and some of what it suggests has been outdated by more recent study. http://books.google.com/books/about/The_Armourer_and_His_Craft_from_the_XIth.html...

Re: Extant LEATHER Lamellar from the Roman Empire

I think there is an eastern scale horse armor at the Met but I am having trouble finding an image on line. I think it would look similar to this one although I think it was squuare in front would have a separate peytral to cover the front of the horse. http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b242/peronis/...

Re: Medieval Knights May Have Had PTSD

Then I wonder what the survival rate in those situations was in medieval times was compared to today. We have better life saving measures now that allow soldiers who are so close to death to survive yet in the middle ages. So many soldiers returning with missing limbs that would have bled out before...

Re: Medieval Knights May Have Had PTSD

I think the Gascons, Burgundians and other regions each had a sense of local unity and us vs. them when fighting each other. Didn't the nobles often try to capture and not kill one another? I thought the notion that knights only sought out direct combat with others of equal statures was one of those...

Re: Medieval Knights May Have Had PTSD

I find my self wondering if dehumanizing the enemy would reduce PTSD. It seems like today we see our enemies as more and more like ourselves where as I remember going on a bus tour of Hungary in my youth and when the guide talked about how they were invaded by the Turks the word used actually transl...

Re: Extra fine/dense mail

Honestly, once you get the riveted maille process down, I found it doesnt matter what the ring size, it is all the same process. But! The smaller the rings, the more tedious it becomes. To make the extra small maille, the AR is key. You write that as if any actual decent reproduction mail, function...

Had to double check. I was mistaken the Joust of squires appears to use the same lances as the main tournement just that the squires use "field armour". Re: Close Helm / Sallets - Modern Interpretations

I am intrigued by the last example. The armorer has made the gorget plates of the bevor strap down to the breast, like a jousting wrapper for an armet. He also made the upper lame of the bevor overlap the lower edge of the visor. Both are useful and innovative features for what I presume to be a pu...

You didn't happen to go to An Poitin Still across the street from the main entrance? They have some lovely South /East Asian reproductions decorating the walls. Of course they looked to be packed with St. Patrick's day revelers when we drove by.

It was a pleasure to meet you.

How about Pensic adjacent? There is a site near Pensic where Jeff held his "Knight school on the road" a few years back. Talk to Red Shield. It wouldn't allow the horses to interact with Pensic activities but it would allow Pensic participants to do some horse activities. Maybe we could truck the ho...

Re: You might remember me from "Full Metal Jousting".

Chris, There are a lot of guys doing the "heavy armor" stuff with buff/wrapper/bevors that don't come up very high and are no where near their helms. Rods is a lot closer and per his description tight with the front of his helm. I do agree that A-310 doesn't look to be mounted properly. I think ther...

Kunsthistorisches Museum Vienna "Leib Rust Kammer" and their newest catalog of armor both have it.
The one in the Higgins catalog has a closer shape to the one Rad has but I put that book where my sons can't get at it and forgot where that was.
