Re: Modifying a helm kit

I would like to add a drape to the back at least, a full drape if I can’t think of something for the face, but I’m having difficulty picturing the anticlastic shape of the slats that would be needed... I’m also planning to knock the point off the cheeks, as I would like to edge them in some leather ...

Re: Modifying a helm kit

I reread that and understood a bit better. I found tempus’ FB page, are there other vendors doing the laser cut grill stuff? I’m coming up empty searching the AA.

Re: Modifying a helm kit

I do like the brass idea, are you suggesting covering the whole lower faceplate? Wouldn’t I need to drill breath holes in it? I was planning to use fabric on the skull portion, I wanna do a small maille drape on the back portion as well. The face is my least liked feature. I will have to try looking...

Modifying a helm kit

Hey guys, my wife bought me a zweihammer style Vendel kit to help get me back into fighting. There’s a lot of these out there, so I kinda want to make mine stand out a little. Problem is I’m not very creative. So my question is If it were you making the helm, what things would you do to it? Edit to ...

Re: Hardened leather SCA fighting

Hey konstantin my search-fu is failing on the gamboised cloth part... Would you be able to point a guy in the right direction? I'm thinking a mix of hardened leather and cloth will be most effective. Though I will probably try the laminated canvas for hidden graves as well!

Re: Hardened leather SCA fighting

Wow, thanks! So water hardening is such that glue hardening isn't really recommended? I assumed there was some difference... Thanks for the other info though, cloth definitely will be incorporated. I already have some thick and some relatively thin leather hence expense not being at the top of the l...

Hardened leather SCA fighting

So as an apartment dweller I can't work metal. But what I've worked with before and can work at home is leather! I found Sir Vitus' glue hardening tutorial and thought given my persona is migration era scandinavian and its all mainly hidden this would be perfect. What I wanted to do was throw some q...

Re: I want to be a Valsgard era Scandinavian (680 AD)

Would anyone be able to point me towards decent patterns for tunics, especially the crossover style, and pants that can be adapted for fighting patterns. My search is failing me and I'm not locating much usable patterns for migration era Scandinavians clothing.

Re: Selling wedge riveted stuff

The guy who started building it for himself before it came to me was 6'2" and a bout 260 or so. I can snap some pics with my tape on it, but its just the start of the hauberk, so essentially its a large square with a circle in the middle, and the start of a sleeve.

Re: Wedge riveted stuff, checking interest

So looking at prices I'm thinking about $250 for the maile stuff, and $150 on the plackard. I'm open to entertaining offers obviously, so let me hear 'em. Also let me know what pictures you'd like to see.

Re: Wedge riveted stuff, checking interest

No need to hammer. Just line up the rivet in the ring, line that up with the notch in the pliers and give it a good squeeze! And let me snap a photo of the plackart. Gotta dig out my tailors tape.

Selling wedge riveted stuff

So I've got some wedge riveted maille supplies that I'm just not going to use. Lack of time and all that. I have about 10 pounds of riveted rings, 10 pounds or so of solid rings, the yoke and start of a sleeve to a hauberk for a bigger dude and a standard that just needs some repair work. Setting pl...
