Well, I dont put much stock in a lot of lamellar conclusions because there really isnt much to conclude. I remember well my thesis professor always saying: "a few...a handful....even a dozen.....is still a case of paucity if we dont find them all preserved in their original environment " From that I...

Sorry guys, I spoke too soon. I'm gonna' change my mind about that effigy. I looked at the picture again http://livinghistory.ie/download/file.php?id=119&sid=8dce13b9ac3c1c96d0169902d8a04b53 The rivets are on the *lower* edges of the plates, and the upper plates overlap the lower ones. This means t...

X-post: Shipping to Italy....I need some insight please
We have some pieces shipping out to a medieval research institution in Italy this week. Its gotta be there by April 6-7 latest. I plan on using Fed Ex, however Im a bit concerned as Ive read horror stories about the great "Italian black hole" of mysteriously disappearing items. If anyone has shipped...

I'm unaware that Indians had laminated bows, and a cursory internet search shows no evidence of it. Spanish often dropped the usage of armor, and adopted cloth based armor. I think that one of the Ospreys shows a surviving example of a BP that had an embossed cross that was cut out and attached to ...

lamellar was normally laced with leather, especially in south-eastern Europe. and lamellar is NOT coat of plates. there's quite some difference. And I think everyone forgot what the OP was asking - if he could use lamellar as an 11th century English persona? Yes he can - just say he got it from one...

Re: Pics of diversity in the SCA
I also want diversity in costumes, if you have or have seen a unique cultural kit I would appreciate pictures of those. This is my turkish kit. Janissary, late 1500's. <img src="http://bordervalekeep.com/Images/Alejandro/DSC04441.jpg"> This is the period drawing I based it off of. <img src="http://...

I think those greaves are on display in the galleries. They are a very nice pair -- an excellent example of greaves. I'm sorry I don't have that book, nor photos of them and I was there not to long ago looking at them and other armour. -JW Indeed they are also early to mid 15th century which puts t...

Fellas, I think youre reading more into those pictures first few images (the bottom two might be). Those "lines: youre interpretting as plates are probably just the slight difference in height/shadow in the leather or fabric in between the covered plates. A well made COP looks like this. Also, look ...

Balistol sounds interesting but these concern me. Its for my angle grinder's copper axle parts the brushes come into contact with. Ballistol is capable of dissolving traces of lead, copper, tombac and zinc. This is why it can clean and shine brass, silver and bronze. When applied to brass contacts, ...

I have wondered the same thing !!! Ive done several scale faulds and have two theories. The first is that the bumps are part of the scale itself, in a sort of reposse sense. Much like a flute, this would keep the plate from warping if struck as its pretty large. The second is that its a rivet that h...

..such a thing as a conductive motor/engine lubricant?
I ask because Im always replacing the carbon brushes in my tools.
I thought some type of electrically conductive lubrant used in carefully placed quantities might be helpful to minimize the wearing of the brushes.
