Polishing "Bench"
A member of our group is interested in putting together a display of armour maintenance, repair and cleaning. We were looking at the illustrations on Karen Lardatter's wonderful site of the armour polishers and thought that the polishing benches like the example in the link below would be a good cent...

Re: Cleaning Armour
Squire, clean my armour! I believe that was pretty much the command that is inspiring the display! ;-) I was looking at the hausbuch pictures earlier, does anyone know what the tool is that they are using in some of the pictures of the polishers? Cleaning Armour
A friend of mine is looking to set up a display of how armour was cleaned and maintained during the late 15th Century. Can anyone recommend any good sources on the subject?
Thanks!

Fauld and Tassets for an Almain Rivet
I recently dug out an old single piece early 16thC style breastplate that I inherited from an old group. With the 500th anniversary of Flodden coming up, I thought I might try and convert it into an Almain Rivet type armour by adding a fauld and tassets to it (backplate and arms may come later as ph...

Another vote for Stanislav Prosek. Why? 1) His work is beautiful. The blackened burgonet he made for me can be seen on his website. 2) Communication is fast and friendly 3) The number of measurements he asks for ensures a good fit. He even e-mailed me to tell me I'd got one wrong! 4) Price to qualit...

As far as we can tell, Scots did follow the general fashions of the time, probably along the lines of either the English or French courts depending on the political situation. With regards weapons and armour, see below. From the Acts of the Scottish Parliament March 6 1430 How men shall be armed for...

I think you'll find that the Gallowglass originate in the mid-late 13th Century as Highland troops being sent to Ireland (hence the foreign part of the name). In fact, the term is not recorded until 1290. being originally from Galloway in Ayrshire I'd be interested where you find their origins being...

As far as I am aware, Bragget is made by adding honey to new ale and fermenting again rather than mixing beer/ale with pre-made mead. Sir Hugh Plat, writing in 1594 recommends adding 9 gallons of honey to 54 gallons of new ale (with the yeast still alive) along with numerous herbs and spices then fe...

Books on Manners and Etiquette
I was wondering if anyone can recommend any good books on manners and etiquette during the 14th-16th Centuries?
I am looking for both primary and secondary sources (and I've already ordered the Book of the Courtier from amazon!)
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
