Re: Fighting someone you do not like
I've been pissed, but at myself - not really anyone else. Because I couldn't understand what I was being taught. I wonder if that is the same thing as fighting when you are angry.
I just took to to mean angry at someone else.

Re: Fighting someone you do not like
I haven't run into too much. I was just curious as to the reason behind pointing out to not go on the field mad. Especially when I've seen it more than once (usually at Crown).

Fighting someone you do not like
I know there is a section in the rules about fighting while mad. I was curious if anyone has ever had to fight someone that they had issues with? I've heard people talk about this from time to time with some saying they 'just do it' and some saying they have yielded rather than beat the person to a ...

Is there a way to make those SCA legal?
Right now I have that on my armor but it's leather and just two straps and a round coin for decoration where the Lion on yours is.

That looks like it would be comfortable. Interested in hearing how it works at a practice. I need to figure out how to pad my new helm.

I have a question about the combo's - you mentioned that not a lot of people do the 3-4 shot combo's. Is there a specific reason behind this?

Sir Tiernan in An Tir does that. Although you can't really see with the helm he has now. It's a bit disconcerting to see actually.

Thank you for all the replies! I appreciate the insight! And thank you Duke Owain for the insight for our Kingdom. I feel pretty lucky to be in Knight central down here in the Three Mountains/Stromgard area and not but a hop skip and a jump from a bunch more up in the Seattle area. I've always been ...

Length of Being a Squire
So along with my Why do Squires exist question - another thing I'm very curious about it the length a person is a squire. I've heard time and time again how there are so few Knights made every year per Kingdom. I've read about people who have been fast-tracked from Squire to Knight (not quite sure w...

Re: Why don't Squires exist?
Thanks Gavin and Blaine, that does make more sense. Especially the part about no two Knights using the same process for choosing a Squire.
I wonder how Squires were chosen back then. If it was a family thing or a friend of a friend's son sort of thing.
Thanks!

Re: Why don't Squires exist?
If the Squires were historically of rank then why not in our Society? Sorry, I guess I'm not quite getting the issue of why some of you are adamant against them being offical, especially since they do seem to be an important part of our fighting culture. If you are a Knight I'd especially like to he...

Re: Visual Cues in Martial Sports?
I took a great class from Viscount Sir Donnen on this subject. He talked about how a lot of times a fighters eyes will focus on the area they plan to hit and that's how you can figure out your next move. He also talked about Monkey See, Monkey Do, where you can use various cues to make your opponent...

Why don't Squires exist?
"Squires don't formally exist" - I see this in a lot of replies. However, Squires are a big part of the SCA. Why aren't they formal? Why hasn't anyone moved forward to make them formal?

I'm in the same position with my knee but it's more meniscus issues. Will be having another clean up surgery in the next few weeks. Will have to have a replacement when I'm 50 - they won't do it before.

My issue is standing still at the pell. I was told to put bells on my boots so that if I heard them I knew I was moving my feet instead of just standing there. Works pretty good, for me.
Kilkenny can you describe more about the "power is applied on return" idea?

Hey guys- There is a real popular shield maker I think out of Arizona - I cannot remember right off what the name is. I got my shield from them last summer but I list all my bookmarked websites. They put the canvas on - the whole nine yards. Hoping someone can throw out a couple names. Been using to...
