Re: Any Tough Guys Left?
I just found out, Iain, that you were not referring to me. Apparently there is a lesson in humility here, but it is not for you. I apologize for my eagerness. To be honest I have been wracking my brains all day on where this came from, and why a man I respect would have not talked to me of your conc...

Iain Ruadh It is the nature of the kind of Men we are looking for that they test those that lead them. That is the expected behavior of those drawn to a life in Harness. Though your courtesy in such challenges seems lacking, luckily, I have no responsibility for your teachings in such things. I rejo...

Re: How did BotN Nationals go?
Thanks, guys!! I'm glad you liked it! Aaron, all the injuries can be traced back to faulty/untweaked harness. (all but the collarbone. that was a freak accident. could have happened playing flag football) Yes, the level of violence is significantly higher at the NT than the divisionals and regionals...

Re: Fencing and Heavy armor/protection minimums
Hmmm.. I'm not sure I got my point across. I didn't intend on putting forward the position that fencer=whiner per se. (reference the afore mentioned bad ass Rapierists) I think I wanted to illuminate three ideas: 1. The landscape of a Martial sport TENDS to lend itself to a certain kind of individua...

Re: Fencing and Heavy armor/protection minimums
Why on God’s Green Earth would you WANT to fight from your knees?!?! (C&T or otherwise) Was that actually something somebody WANTED to do in C&T? Back to the OP. I am an SCA authorized heavy, rapier, C&T etc. fighter. I pretty much fight whatever is on hand. I have seen absolutely tough as nails, su...

A lot of the Armored combat League/BoTN folks are switching to period suspension liners. They are hands down superior, when done right.

FS Enameled heavy copper Dumbek/Darbuka. Squire’s A&S dream!
Beautiful enameled copper Darbukka, synthetic head, and carrying case. Bought from Touch the Earth. He is selling new ones of these for $395.00 I have had it for a few years and used it three or four times. This is a significantly sized drum. It’s the same drum a lot of the pro players are using. F/S Darkwood C&T longsword
Gotta raise money for BoTN equipment! Here we go again! I am selling my Darkwood C&T legal longsword. Has pierced quillions and his "fishtail" pommel. Hilt is green leather wrapped. There are scratches in the leather due to gauntlets. Blade has never been bent, is perfectly straight, and no signific...

Gerhard, we had a BIG problem last year with people being able to "Squire". We thought we, as fighters, could take care of each other in that respect...... we were dead wrong. It affected us quite a bit. I think we all have a far greater understanding for the NEED of a Knight to have logistical help...

your right, Gregoire. I was more referring to the "look" of the coif coming all the way up as opposed to the helm itself. (smile) sorry, I sould have been more specific in my question.

This is a very interesting image.. This is from Shamrock armory. is this an SCA-ism, or is there documentation for a chain coif coming up that far on the face?

Re: Use of Kettlehelms with later style CoP
Thanks a million for the reply, Sean! i am doing what really shouldn't be done, and working backwards.... This is specifically going to be used for BoTN and HMB style combat. The situation is that I have spring arms, legs, and am building an "italian" style CoP "corrizina" from 22 guage spring. I ha...

Use of Kettlehelms with later style CoP
Friends. I seem to recall some evidence of kettlehelms being used with "corrizina" style coats of plate. Does this ring a bell for anybody, or am I just getting cross wired?

Re: Helm Fit / Injuries?
Hey my friend. I wanted to comment on this really quick, as this is pretty significant... The majority of the helms I saw being used by the primary teams were using what in the SCA would be considered oversized helms. They fill that extra space up with really effective methods of padding. My bascine...

Re: Will the BoTN change the SCA:s HF game?
Gentlemen. I would like to address the question of the Original Poster. This is purely my opinion, and is not meant as some kind of blanket statement from my Brothers. Combat with BoTN and HMB style rules, and equipment has no business EVER EVER EVER being a part of the SCA. 1. There is NO WAY to ma...

Request for iconographic Ideas from Community, BoTN related
Friends. I would like to enlist your help. There are a lot of very smart people on here, and a lot of people who "get" it. In the BoTN, I will be wearing a jupon with the team colors, of course, and the guys who will be using shields will have the BoTN livery on them. I will be using a steel buckler...

Hmmm... think we could find an effigy with mail mittens? There is a practical reason I ask. The target date for my kit is 1375. I HAVE finger gauntlets, but they got dangerously trashed in BoTN style fighting... They are pretty sticky about a kit being "consistent" in it's look. if I can document ma...
