Re: How do the grips of hand pavises work?

Not sure who has tried the 'bull's pizzle' handles. I was very skeptical about this until more or less recently. A couple of years ago there was a discussion (somewhere.. ) on Face Book about it. I was maintaining that the extant material looked like bovine leg tendon, and that the bull pizzle was ...

Unfortunately I think you are out of luck until the renovation is complete. I think what you are seeing, in the image from the article, are the armours crowded into a storage room during the renovation. In the past the museum was well worth the visit but like most museums most of their items were in...

Scott,

Look through the images in Goll's thesis he has some good photos of A62 that show that the various latten borders are made in 2 layers.

You also can see here (KHM page for A58 gauntlets):

RexDavid when you say "original" do you mean that you have an extant historic artifact, something that is perhaps 400-500 years old?
Most of the above advice seems to be given with the idea that you have a modern reproduction.

I think if I were to go this route, I'd follow Mac's path and build a pair of mitten gauntlets, then cut them up the middle and install leathers down the "center" outsides, as this is how the gauntlet was actually constructed. If you go this route I'd suggest using a jewelers saw (using a #0 or #1 ...

New sleeve mods are looking much better. A few of comments: 1. Armpit cross grain joint, I would have expected it to be a bit wider. Maybe about 25%ish of sleeve circumference at the shoulder. If what you have works then it is not be worth messing with. 2. It is hard to tell in your photos but the c...

Re: A vision of a dream - finished greaves

A good place to start for sorting out the sleeves is to take a step back and mount straps instead of a fabric yoke. This will allow you to play with the fit and tension through adjusting the strap length. Once you find the strap lengths that work best you can use this to help with the proper size/pa...
