Re: What should I do next with these spaulders?

Wade, thank you for sharing. I only live an hour and a half north of there and wasn't aware of it. I may have to rearrange my schedule to see if I could attend. I have a wide assortment of tools, but unfortunately haven't been getting down to St. Louis as regularly as I did a few years back. What is...

Re: Pewter Block - that one ok?

There are probably a lot of factors in that question, including does the forming work well for you, since everybody works a bit different. Best way to find out would be to give it a shot. the pewter blocks can always be melted back down and reformed, so the lame would be the only potential waste pie...

Re: What do you use to punch holes in your plates?

I'm not aware of a center punch that does make a hole. center punches generally leave a divot in the material to keep a drill from walking. there is an automatic center punch that is spring loaded where you just push the tool against the material, and it will trigger as if a normal center punch was ...

welcome, I am not aware of any armourers in your general region, particularly that are looking to open their shops for long term with individuals they don't know. My copy of the book came in. it appears it is the same book as would have been available in Atlanta and Nashville. 142 pages. Several high quality pictures of engraving and etching. I'm happy to have it in my collection, but it would not be the first book I purchased. Has some examples of armour typ...

Museo Stibbert book from Arlington Museum of Art exhibition

Not quite sure if this is more appropriate here or in the for sale section, but I am not selling anything, just passing along information. The Arlington Museum of Art just recently wrapped up their exhibition of a Knight's Tale from the Museo Stibbert in Florence. When I originally inquired if they ...

Trying to locate a book based on two pages

I was doing a bit of going down rabbit holes, and found a newspaper coverage of an armouring gathering at the Surly Anvil back in 2016 and one of the pictures has me curious. The article can be seen here: https://mountainx.com/arts/forging-ahead-the-united-league-of-armorers-gathering/ The specific ...

Good luck. With book three "about" to ship, it looks like the remaining copies that the Wallace had have sold. it's going to be a harder book to find going forward, though someone may have been doing a bit of speculating and bought them for the intention of resale so you might get lucky.

Thank you. I have been following lots of lines, and called the Frist museums gift shop earlier today. They did have copies of the book, but are sold out, and it would take three weeks to get more and the exhibit ends in three weeks, so they will not be ordering more. So I reached out the armor curat...

Stibbert Museum in Florence, is there a "the" book to get?

Was looking through references to books on armour that I don't have in my collection and came across a book on a Stibbert Exhibit that toured the US in 2019. Having no luck locating a copy of that book for sale, I started looking to see if there was another book that catalogs the collection and foun...

May favorite pairs have always been more like mini bolt cutters than simple leverage pliers. like these https://www.wayfair.com/outdoor/pdp/patriot-hi-tensile-wire-cutter-dtri1066.html For really small rings I had to carve the outside edges of the blades down, but it seems to have no impact on their...

I would be interested, though it's a bit of a drive for me. I was able to make one of your Friday night events ages ago and had a lot of fun and learned a lot. would not be a regular, but it would be nice to meet up with people hitting metal.

Re: How to trip steel rivets

How long are your end nippers? Perhaps a pair with more leverage would make the difference.

Other options that come to mind would be bolt cutters, or an abrasive wheel, either a dremel or angle grinder would make short work of the trimming.

Posting a location will also help in regards to the 2.2 Foam. Most amtgard shield vendors are regional, as shipping the foam adds significantly to the cost if you are just looking for raw foam.

This idea has been rattling around in my head since I first saw this question, and I saw two issues with making a Lamellar look like scale, both which had two do with the differences in overlap. Scale doesn't overlap within the same row, and scales are offset like shingles from one row to the next. ...

I am just spit balling here, but what if you took the PVC rack style, but out of plywood, create flatter holes for the file, and stagger the tops to accommodate the round handles. First hole on the left is strait up and down, but the next hole angles forward maybe 20 degrees or so, then #3 is back u...

KtR, what tonnage are you using on the arbor press? I don't have one currently, but it's on the list of tools to watch out for. I figured the tonnage rating on a #5 is above the 1/2 ton presses you can get at HF, but I guess they may be different scales if Mac wasn't able to flatten rings without ri...

Re: Cheap sheet metal punch

Would one of these work (with appropriate bottom anvil and punch) for doing riveted mail? Seems like the tonnage would be overkill, but easier on the hands than the nipper modification and you could make up multiple drifts prior to starting. And maybe also use it for closing the rivets? I have a few...
