i use thin veg tanned leather 1 or 0,8 mm the corect stitching method i have seen on originals is a nomal sadlers stitch. leave the leather to wide then sew it together and then trim it just above the stitching and rub it down and flat with a piece of bone. http://www.myarmoury.com/talk/viewtopic.ph...

if you are using a gilding salt you can have problems with aloys containing tin and ofcourse tin it self.
you can first copperplate the object and then goldplate.

I always use ash for a pole weapon shafts
Make sure you get a piece of straight grained wood.
This wil make the pole a lot stronger.

i use the dugout method. you can get a non bulky scabbard just plane the wood down till you can see the light comming trough the wood. and work with poplar. and Mac is right most scabbards are way to bulky. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v726/grben/Bentotaal.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/...

Just cover the straps in velvet and gild the buckles, stoprib and lance rest.
do some file work on the lance rest and put the same velvet behind the file work.
