Leather knee/elbow cops

Bashford Dean mentions such finds in case two on page 43 of 'Handbook of Arms and Armour' in the Met. I've never heard of these before? Has anyone got any pics by any chance?

Just FYI, a slovak is somebody from Slovakia, I think you meant Slav. Anyway, you might find this useful http://www.20000-names.com/female_slavic_names.htm

Mid 15th century kit

I've been contacted by an individual who would like to purchase a knight's harness that would fit into the decade or so before 1454, as for the location, south-eastern Europe. He's not really into the armour scene himself, and I've been out of it for a couple of years so I thought I'd best ask here....

Gallery of Helmets

A few years ago I remember somebody posted a link to a huge gallery of photos of pretty much every known extant bascinet. I can't remember whether there were more helmets or not but anyway, If anyone has it could they post it here please?

Thanks, Kersme

Ive paid between 30 and 200 in tax for armour on various occasions when having it shipped to the uk. There seems to be no logic to the variations. Sometimes more expensive stuff was taxed less and so on.

because only vegtan has the properties necessary, ie. it will stretch when wet so you can turn the shoe inside out.

Not entirely relevent to Spain, but here are some 12th/14th century (i can't remember, was visiting too many churches that day), frescoes from Souther Serbia. Shape of the scales are the same, and in some cases the colour. Would that cancel the possibility of China or am I jumping the gun? http://i1...

the swirly things are just cut with a thick knife then the edges of the incisions were 'pushed' up a bit with a stylus while the leather was damp, to make them stand a bit more.

thanks :)

Don't worry, I like pretty arming coats :) This was my last one; http://s13.photobucket.com/albums/a272/kersme/?action=view¤t=S6001088.jpg I probably will go with red, possibly two colours, not as extravagant as the last one. As I'm still going for a Serbian persona, I'm going to try and copy ...

I'm actually trying to make it as historical as possible, then when traveling, I'll take the heavy bits away and use hidden stuff. As for the weight of 2 helmets instead of one, I know its silly, but I just love the combination. Its one of those really cool period things that I really want to...

Thanks everyone for the great replies.

Don, I'm doing eastern Europe, where there are bacinelo's mentioned, and it is the general opinion that it is between a cerveliere and a bascinet. I'm still deciding on the exact design though.

So am I right in thinking that a 16 gauge mild greathelm worn over a light gauge spring cerveliere would be ok? Or would the other way round be better?

14th century helmet advice needed

Hi, Ive been doing reenactment for some time now, joined the SCA recently, and am looking to get new kit. Im want to go for 1340, and was considering a cerveliere under a Greathelm. Now the main factor of all this is weight, I travel a lot, and want to take my kit with me. As I have understood, sca ...

Nevertheless, one can find quite a bit of stuff on those paintings that resembles 14th century armour quite closely.

what detail is it you find interesting?
The thingie on the helmet is generally assumed to be a crest/feather, not anything that aids defense.

The Decani frescoes were painted between 1330. and 1350. I visited Decani last summer, I'll see if I can upload a few pics.

I got a helm and befor from him, and a friend got most of his 14th century kit from Maxim. You have to tell him about every detail you want, for example both I and my friend recieved armour that wasn't painted on the inside. (And I can't paint my helm because the liner is already in.) Otherwise, nic...
