Re: 16th Century Targets: Always Convex? Where to Buy?

If you could do with a 24" diameter convex, here's what I did, I stopped by a Semi Truck salvage& found the end cap off of a round fuel tank, this leaves you 2 directions to go, if you want it lighter, but more susceptible to damage, cut it at the corner& use trim lock. If you can take a little more...

Re: Any EE's or scrounge meisters in the haus?

Louis, your link also led me to this article. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Induction_generator which has some good info as well. reading this section, which is predicated upon a slightly bigger setup gives me a starting point. Example application One must use a 10 hp, 1760 r/min, 440 V, three-phase ...

Re: Any EE's or scrounge meisters in the haus?

Apparently you need to correct the power factor to originally build up the magnetic field in the motor. https://www.physicsforums.com/threads/why-do-induction-generator-need-capacitor-bank.459144/ If I'm reading this right you connect high voltage capacitors across the load to build up the initial ...

I'm looking at repurposing some equipment to make a mobile platform of sorts, so an inverter, or phase converter most likely won't work, plus I would probably have to add a step up transformer.

An addendum:

What ever is done cannot be a "one-off" solution, as if the concept proves out, I may need to fabricate multiple power supplies.

Any EE's or scrounge meisters in the haus?

I have a tricky problem I have been trying to figure out. I need to engineer a cost effective manner to produce a device to produce 440-480V 3ph, enough wattage to run 2 1hp motors simultaneously. I know an induction motor can be used as a generator. I know it must be over driven slightly to compens...

Now if we could get the school on board....

On the welder, I would advise the best you can afford. Easier to turn one down than to crank up what you don't have.

William, Is your place up there sugar sand, or is there some clay? How big is the shed? Concrete is expensive, is it in your budget at the moment? There may be some other options, You can get crushed rock from the Co-op but it would be delivered by a center-dump grain trailer, I'm told ~ $800 a load...

I'm looking for rubber grommets, roughly 3/4" in size for a hole drilled in a wine bottle. Any cheap sources for something like this? The wine bottle is a display piece with a small hole in the back and filled with 20 or so Christmas lights. We use quite a few that size at work, but I cannot say fo...

You can also try drilling a 1/2 in hole near your ears on each side to let some of the sound/air pressure out. I had to do this on my helmet when I made it,after the first time I fought it felt like both my ears were being boxed at the same time. After the holes...no problem. I briefly used a borro...
