No worries Lorias, I am still here. I am terribly sorry with the series of events that have lead us to this point. I am currently out of the Country and have been several times since you made your order. I recently let go my shipping clerk because of numerous errors on his part. I am sorry again. Wh...

Re: What kind of steel?
Yeah, 18 gauge or 20 gauge mild steel would be your best choice Those we be alright gauges to use if it was forged & tempered steel. However, for reenactment purposes if you are going with mild steel you will want 16ga at the very least to prevent armour fail if hit hard. That is if you don't want ...

Re: What kind of steel?
I can make you some plates out of Spring steel if you would like, heat treated and everything. If you want to find something yourself see if you can get 1050 spring steel sheet at your nearest steel supply outfit.

Inquiry For Bloomery Iron Wire
In the days of Late, I have been rigging my shop to produce wrought iron in the oldest form possible. Bloomery Style. I was wondering if anyone out there would be intrested if I were to take said iron and pull it into wire? The wire would be available in a long enough length to fit a coils worth on ...

No it does not work that way. And instead of 'believing' you might as well pick up a book and learn how steel really works. On the contrary I picked up the hammer first, the books came second. The only thing books do for me now is explain in detail what was taught to me as gospel in a mystical sort...

Rolled Plate vs Forged Plate
Dear fellow Armourers, I have been thinking for a great while what material would be stronger. A peice of steel rolled into a sheet or the same steel beat from a billet into a plate would be stronger. Taking into account metallurgy and the compression of molecules, I believe, although have not prove...

Intresting Controversy, Help
I have had a intresting conversation with my friend on how munition grade axes were made during the viking age. I thought due to the metallurgy that they had available to them the axes would of been forged in the traditional manner with a high carbon steel bit and an iron body and eyelit. My friend ...

Would anyone be intrested in Gutentags?
I have been wondering if gutentags would sell. They are somewhat easy to make. They are pole maces invented by the flemish peasants. They have a block of wood ontop of a 5 foot pole and on each of the four sides of the block are a steel spike and it has a top spike. The spikes measure about 3 1/2" t...
